Hate crimes are not restricted to physical violence, but could include symbolism/imagery that is meant to intimidate or demean a particular ethnic group (e.g. nooses, a swastika).

As I said This COULD have the makings of Duke U and Tawanna Brawley written all over it, should they be charged with hate crimes as well?
Your post questioned why this incident would be consider a hate crime - that is what I'm responding to. As for whether this is a "fake" hate crime, we will find out soon enough.
Farrakhan calling Jews "blue eyed devils" and saying Jews should be killed. Nation of Islam calling for members to kill white people. Rev Wright saying God Damn America. Yep. I can clearly see where animosity is rooted.
This is disgusting and racist. How many white people have not only called Jews names and suggested they be killed but actually did it. (Hitler and his crew of Nazis come to mind.) Do you think the entire white race should be hated for this? How about the KKK and the Neo-nazi party---all white people. Most serial killers have been white men. No one should judge an entire race by the actions of a few.

Hitler got his just reward, David Duke is a pos as most white people will admit, Timothy McVey got what was coming, KKKer Byrd is a LW senator. It seems like some will persecute and police their own without prejudice, why does Screwy Louie even have a following let alone a "million man march"? As far as most serial killers being white can you prove that by proportion? Why are 60% of gun crimes committed by 13% of the population?
There are criminal and civil remedies in place to address individuals who file false police reports/statements.
