Do you think this will hurt him or help him with votes...

It has hurt McCain already. Terrible decision & makes his campaign appeared confused & unfocused. Really poor showing.

Independents will realize he's just not got what it takes. The GOP diehards will go down fighting just like McCain did in Vietnam. Of course, it'll be 5 and a half years of "when I was not President...."

If McCain were chair of the committee, or even a member of it, maybe. But he's not, so it matters little whether he's in D.C. or not. Obama has already submitted his suggestions, many of which have been incorporated by the committee into the plan. McCain has submitted nothing, to the best of my knowledge. This whole "suspended campaign" thing is pure B.S.

I totally agree.

IF McCAIN DOES NOT DEBATE, he doesn't have to do his homework. What an easy way out of this debate.

All of a sudden McCain cares more about America's economics than his campaign. That's not going to fly.

A month ago McCain nominated Sarah Palin. What a great gift to America! Way to go!

If he doesn't debate it is going to hurt him even more.

The American people aren't complete idiots. You either have to be new to politics or the biggest kool-aid drinker in the world not to see that this is a stunt.

Carter tried this stunt during the Iran hostage crisis. Reps skewered him on it. The debates went on.

That's for sure! When McCain speaks, nobody listens. If you do, it's all lies.

When Warren Buffet or Bill Gates speak, you better listen. These two guys are financial wizzards and they know what they are talking about. McCain doesn't have a clue to what's going on.

Bush is trying to save him with this joint "statement" will all three.

He just doesnt do his homework and Eliza D is not ready yet. That's all.

But they have to sneak and lie - Bush too.

So pathetic. McCain should be humiliated at having to be rescued.

Bush stepping in reminds me of like those kid games - baseball, soccer - where the parents have created rules that say Everyone Must Win. Even the kids who dont practice.

It can't help him, because he needs to make up some ground.

He'll come off as a big ole pu$$y. I mean, come on. Like he was going to show up for the first time in months and work on a Friday night?

If he refuses to debate, people will see this for what it is - a stupid, political stunt.
