He could have spoken somberly on Letterman. A huge audience, it would have sent his ratings way up. Why didnt his handlers see that? Sit there for five minutes, get on eor two important statements across, and leave because you have to go save the world.

He didnt have time to impress new voters with his seriousness on Letterman's show, but he was able to take time out from his saving-the-economy schedule to go on Katie Couric's show.

And why not, it was Couric's program that saved him a few months ago by editing out some gaffe he made.

Skip the opportunity to win over new voters, lie stupidly to Letterman - like he's not going to find out! - and run down the street to the place where you know they'll protect you.

Now that's what I call an honorable hero who can run the planet.

Agreed, I've NEVER seen Dave do something like this, EVER.

Who is running McCain's campaign? Noted GOP commentators are turning against McCain as much as Democrats. Canceling the Letterman show was a huge mistake. McCain looks erratic & self-destructive.

Absolutely, it would have been an ideal platform - he could have said anything he wanted.

He not only did the interview with Couric, but also had a meeting with Lady de Rothschild (remember her? the redneck comment? ). He certainly wasn't in any "rush" to head back to Washington - he wasn't even scheduled to leave until the next morning.

If he didn't want to appear on Letterman - for whatever reason - he should have just been honest about it. Instead he called up Letterman personally and lied to him...not cool .

This is not a person with the character to be president. The man LIED, and he got called out. I'm glad.

Pretty funny stuff...

Politicians prefer Couric as she has become another softball question thrower.
Letterman though a comedy show can actually ask tougher questions than Couric and Larry King .

potentially, but as a result he would kill the all important "mood" of the comedy show that is Letterman. Besides, I doubt Letterman would allow him to stay put five minutes without saying something to make him laugh, and then the Huffington Post has a new photo for their front page.
