Default The Keating mess redeux

Doesn't it seem that McCain should be kept far, far, far away from anything that would impact on banking in this country? Just look back to the last time we had to spend 30 billion dollars bailing out the Savings and Loans from a mortgage crisis. McCain was at the bottom of that mess too. Now here we go again. He and his buddy Phil Gramm do their best to de-regulate away every protection the tax payers had and,(surprise, surprise) with the regulations gone the greedy crooks take advantage and rob us blind. Now McCain says he's going to fix the mess. Yeah, right. The fox is going to rush into the hen house and fix things right up...you bet. That's the end of the hens.

Interesting. WSJ has an article that suggests you may not be alone in your thinking....

"And Mr. McCain has a special advantage to bring to any such investigation -- many of the relevant witnesses are friends or colleagues of his. In fact, he can probably get to the bottom of the whole mess just by cross-examining the people riding on his campaign bus. So the candidate should take a deep breath, remind himself that the country comes first, pull the Straight Talk Express over at a rest stop, whistle up his media pals, and begin."

See - no one can answer the question for me of why two people who are not on the committees responsible for drafting this bill actually need to be there until the bill passes committee. The only reason that I can think of is to meet with lobbyists. What am I missing?
