A new SUSA Poll out of the state of Oregon gives Obama a big time lead of 52%-41%. It's good to see my neighbor to the south continuing their strong progressive tradition.

does this surprise you? I still don't understand why huge government is considered "progressive."

Progressiveness is not a function of size, but of attitude and policy, which do not of themselves equate to bigness; it depends on the policy being implemented. Planning and building the interstate highway system was a rather progressive idea (of Eisenhower, GOP, 1952-1960) that did require staff to make it happen, which was not a bad thing in my eyes. Making sure that every child got the Polio Vaccine in the late 1950's and early 1960's (I still have the cards they issued us in middle school) was a progressive type of thing to do, and I appreciate that it was done. Anyone who would whine about giving polio vaccine to kids as being "big government" aren't going to convince me this is a bad thing.

BTW: Obama's numbers are up in CO too, not noted for being all that progressive or liberal.

Ha ha ha! I heard them mention this on the radio this morning. They also said to scroll down and see who was polled - mostly Democrats and Independents!

Could also be a response to the effigy-hanging in their state.

I don't know pollsters consider Oregon a swing state. The good news for Oregonians is that Gordon Smith, incumbent repub senator, may be defeated.

Did you bother looking into that?

Poll:
Republican: 35%
Democrat: 42%
Independent: 20%

The repubs cared in 2000 when they were in my county trying to challenge our votes. Apparently, they wanted our 7 electoral votes.
