He was referring to the SecState and diplomatic staff. If he meant the Pres., he would have said the Pres. That's why he released a statement clarifying his position after the debate.

Where does he say "high level officials"? He doesn't, he uses the term "we". You actually support what Obama has stated and then restated tonight that talks would begin with lower level officials and then progress from there. Of coarse Kissinger is going to back up his "good friend" McCain however the record clearly shows what he said. Spin it however you like.

He made his original comments on March 15, 2008 and yet he does not clarify his comments until today? This issue was brought up by Hillary during the primaries, why didn't he clarify then?

Yes, "we" in the context of the position in which he served, Secretary of State, and the diplomatic staff.

Hillary did not say she would meet with rogue leaders without preconditions. Hillary chastised Obama for saying he would. It was an embarrasing mistake by Obama at the time.

Asked whether he meant the U.S. should hold direct talks
from my previous post

So you are saying that he refers to himself as the entire U.S.?

I said that THE ISSUE was brought up by Hillary. She tried to use it to discredit Obama and yet Kissenger did not feel it necessary to clarify his remarks until now.

The Secretary of State and the diplomatic staff represent the U.S. in foreign affairs.

Why would he have to? Hillary got it right.
