Ok. I am hearing the democratic journalists placing all the blame on McCain for not bringing the republicans to the table. So what are your thoughts regarding Nancy Pelosi not bringing 10 democrats to a yes vote?
The Dems promised 140 votes, and delivered. This failed because of the republicans, nobody else. Bush is such a lame duck he can't even get his own party to go along with him anymore. The republicans don't want to pass this thing because they are more interested in keeping their jobs than stopping America from turning into a banana republic.
it wasn't mccain's job to bring anybody to the table any more than it was obama's, since they both indicated that they were in favor of the bill. if mccain failed, obama failed. nancy pelosi tried too hard to milk this for political gain, she confused everybody (is she for the bill or for the taxpayers?), and then she lost. she is trying to start it up again but i hope people have learned their lesson.

so you are saying for everybody on this forum that the democrats did actually want this bill at the expense of the american taxpayer? i just want to be clear on this.

Yea, yea, yea ---- but where were the ten dems? As I understand it, weren't there something like 70 dems voting no on this thing? What was their reasonings behind voting no?

McCain decided to turn this into his platform last week, so therefore he failed. He gambled with his opportunistic bullsheet and failed.

Since the Dow dropped 700 points today - a record drop - some kind of agreement to this bailout might have been a good thing. Agree now - with provisos - tinker later.

I'm not thrilled about it, but the other options aren't too great. There were plenty of safeguards put into place to make sure these slimeball wall street guys didn't get golden parachutes either.
If the republicans didn't want to pass it, then just own it, but don't blame it on the Dems, they delivered the votes they promised.
The Washington Post points out that this vote proves "all politics is local."
It's no coincidence then that of the 205 Members who voted in support of the bill today, there are only two -- Reps. Chris Shays (R-Conn.) and Jon Porter (R-Nev.) -- who find themselves in difficult reelection races this fall. The list of the 228 "nays" reads like a virtual target list for the two parties.
