The problem is that McCain has already said he supports it. Not only does he support it, he took ownership of it saying he has played a big role in the process. It too late now. besides most Americans are blaming republicans for this mess.
Now that the Republicans have rewritten the bill, and tossed out all of the gravy the demos put infor themselves, it is a good bill and will pass.
John should get credit for saving the bill, and your butts....
He and obama are both supporting this bill. Its political poison for one or the other to go in opposition. Congressmaen and Senators who are up for re-election find themselves in a pickle as opposing the bill ruffles feathers on the hill and ticks off special interests while supporting it goes agaisnt what their constituents want.
The Bailout still stinks...You can dress it up, but it still screws Main Street

Save my butt? Are you kidding me?
This is not 1929. The Stock Market has not crashed. The people of America oppose this bill for good reason because it is a bailout for billionaires.
Bailout: Bush pushes for it, strong backing by Democrats, McCain not sure what to do, House Republicans stop it and are heroes to the American people.
McCain could ride the populist wave right into the White House, but given that he is a creature of corrupt beltway politics it is unlikely. Obama seems to have taken the high ground on this issue already.
Please don't give up your day job in order to become a political strategist. Perhaps you haven't noticed but as a result of the bailout planning going to seed Obama has widened the gap on McCain.
As for being a hero of the American people, guess again.
"The Pew pol (http://weblogs.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/politics/blog/2008/09/bailout_polls_depends_on_the_w.html - broken link)l, by contrast, asked respondents if 'investing billions to try to keep financial institutions and markets secure' was the right thing to do.

it is not a good bill and it never was. provisions for american samoa, give me a break! both mccain and obama should be ashamed of themselves if they vote for this bill. they are selling this country out!
John has completely lost it. He claims Palin is more popular than ever. He claims the Dems are impressed with her. He claims he hasn't heard any Pub calling for her to step down.
I think most people are grudgingly going along with the bill - however distasteful and unfair it may be. This includes Obama and McCain. The liquidity crisis is extremely real and this may help - no gurantees.
