Okay, so why don't you talk to your local Republican headquarters and suggest that they try it?

Or not, because you think that those homeless people getting rides are going to vote Democrat even if a Republican gives them a meal and transportation to the polls.

Because either this thread is about some feared wrong-doing, or it's about Democrats getting more Democrats to the voting booths.

Sort of like the college students who may live in dorms that the republicans are trying to discourage from voting?

"Colorado Democrats accused a Republican county clerk Wednesday of falsely informing Colorado College that students from outside the state could not register to vote if their parents claimed them as a dependent on their tax returns.
...

Balink's actions are the latest of several instances in which local election officials, including some in Virginia and South Carolina, have discouraged college students from voting in a year in which legions of students have thrown their energy behind Obama."

So then why dont the Republicans offer to take these people to the polls and give them a meal in the hopes they will vote Republican?

Maybe because it's illegal to buy votes?

Do you not realize it's illegal to buy votes?

Just a quick comment on this...

Voting booth? We have portable voting 'briefcases' on legs, here. http://adage.com/images/bin/image/large/lausen_p94.jpg

It's common to see an additional person (sometimes more) helping voters cast their ballots at the voting 'briefcases.'

One, you have to prove that the meal (or other consideration) was proffered in the explicit exchange for a vote for Obama. Otherwise, it's called charity.

Two, if Republicans really thought that a meal and a ride to the polls would result in a vote for McCain, they would be doing it. Instead, they are gathering lists of foreclosures and posting people to challenge voters.

What does it matter if they live on Fir Street or at Oak Manor? This is a national election, and the person voting is a US citizen. Their vote goes into a state tally to select electors, the President isn't being voted by county or district. The only reason in a national election that precinct matters is to prohibit multiple voting. The Republican challenges aren't about challenging suspected multiple voters, it's about exploiting a loophole to challenge voters who are recently displaced. Ask the people who were displaced by Hurricane Ike if that's right. Because the Republican Party certainly made a big deal about toning down it's convention to show support for our "fellow Americans" then. But on the day we go to the polls, are the Republicans supporting their "fellow Americans" or only their "fellow Republicans"?

Rules for determining residence for the purpose of registering to vote in Ohio (R.C. 3503.02)
R.C. 3503.02 provides the following rules for determining residence for a person who desires to register to vote in Ohio: Link

  • Persons who do not have a fixed place of habitation, such as homeless persons, may use a shelter or other location where the person has been a regular inhabitant and intends to return as the person’s residence for the purpose of registering to vote.

Ai yi Lucy. It's ultimately up to the voter.

If the Republicans could bring themselves to, there's nothing stopping them from feeding the homeless and driving them to the polls too, you know.

But no, the Republican way is to go to court over it (http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=news-000002967526 - broken link) (and fail, btw ).

And the additional person helping isn't a taxi driver or bus driver, it's someone who is authorized by the County Clerk's office as a polling place worker. In my state, they have to take an oath that they will do the job without bias.
