Did you actually WATCH it? He started crying after Palin was obviously connecting with average families. He prefaced his boo-hooing with "I understand average Americans, tooooooo..." THEN, he mentioned his deceased wife and kid.
It seemed like a ploy to me. No one was even talking about kids at that point. He INJECTED them into the discussion for sympathy, it seems. If the accident had happened within the past 10 years and something in the discussion sparked his memory, I'd think, "Aw, poor guy." It would be odd but it would be genuine. But there was NOTHING discussed in the debate that could have made him genuinely cry about something that happened 25+ years ago.

Bravo!
It was real and I think he unknowingly bridged the effects of DC politicking has on everyday lives-sitting around that kitchen table as it were. The things they do there really affect us all.
About Hillary's moment-it was genuine too. Oh God I wish these 2 hadnt ran against each other. Both Hillary and Obama are perfect for the job. I mean, considering where we are today as a nation, just perfect.

Yeah, I know the accident happened and it was tragic. I'm saying that the crying was fake. Btw, how long ago was the accident? 25-30 years ago? Why would a discussion about middle class finances cause him to cry about the accident?

if anything was a ploy, it was Palin's repeating scripted "hackey mom, i understand speech". It was so scripted that she actually repeated wrod for word a couple of times without variation. And it was out of nowhere; Palin was mentioning something about family, and Biden's responded to it and it was genuine. Whether you believe it or not doesn't matter because you are so bias, but all the forums and internet are buzzing about it because it sure felt more real than scripted zombie's fake "hackey mom" speech.

Well, if talking about middle-class finances make you cry about your family, go for it. Not my business. I DO care about a politician being smarmy enough to USE a tragedy to try to score debate points, though.

Sure the hockey mom thing is a slogan type of thing. Who cares? But if Sarah Palin started crying out of the blue about her Down Syndrome baby during the debate, I'd be equally critical because it would seem like a ploy. And people like yourself would CRUCIFY her. Hell's bells, you criticize her for having the baby out in public, even though the rest of the family is there, as well!

Not to doubt Joe's sincerety at all, but weren't some of you the same folks who ripped into Hillary for tearing up during the Primaries?

Losing your family, especially in such a horrific way is something I wish no one would ever have to experience. I feel for Joe but separate the tragedy from todays campaign. Joe tried to garner sympathy when he alleged that the other driver was drunk when he was not. For that I don't have respect for him.
A career politician in a vp or p debate does nothing that is not intended. Do I think his break up was calculated, yes. Maybe he saw how it worked for Hillary and decided to plagiarize that too.
