At a campaign stop in Carson, CA, Governor Sarah Palin kicked of a calculated smear campaign against Sen. Barack Obama’s saying that his few encounters with controversial figure Bill Ayers, one of the founders of the group the Weather Underground, means that Obama is anti-American — and unfit to be president.

And, the New York Times article concluded that he was not associated with Ayers. Read the whole article. Of course, I have now found out that John McCain is the true Manchurian candidate from reading these blogs and forums. Can't we just forget all of the accusations and inuendo and deal with facts and issues?
This is going to blow up in their face. A lot of independents are independents because they dissect the issues and don't just vote party lines. Crap like this is not going to sway them, plus, all of this stuff has been posted all over the internets tubes and the google forever and it's not working.
We'll be seeing an increased amount of this crap the next few weeks because the McCain campaign has now reached the "desperation" level. They will throw everything imaginable against the wall in the hopes that something will stick. I hope the voters are smart enough to recognize this strategy, but I'll bet there are millions who are not!

I think she should expand her commentary on associations with terrorists, like a POTUS cuddling up with the terror sponsoring Libya and waltzing through the Rose Garden holding hands with terror sponsoring Saudi officials.

This is TOTALLY expected - sadly...
McCain CAN'T talk about issues - he'd be dead meat if he did.
He can't talk about the economy - the Republicans have been in power for 8 years, in total control for the 1st 6 - and look where we are. Most Americans are very scared about their economic future - for good reason.
He can't talk about Health Care. His proposal will DESTROY company-sponsored health-care in this country - with nothing to replace it but a tax credit (not indexed to inflation) that would only cover maybe 1/3 of the cost - and if you have prior-existing conditions - you probably will not even find anyone to cover you. I've read studies where McCain's proposal will add 20 million to the uninsured roles.
He CAN talk about national security - Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran - but frankly, the nation is not putting a high priority on it right now.
So all he and Palin can do is go industrial-strength NEGATIVE - and pray for a miracle!
They'll be coming out with some pretty insidious things - like trying to imply that Obama is friends with the Muslim Terrorists... that he really HATES this country - that a vote for Obama is a vote for Bin Laden!!! Don't laugh - you're going to see some very dirty stuff from Republican stump speaches, and especially tv ads.
However, I think this will backfire on McCain. People are sick-and-tired of mudslinging. They want to know your stand on the issues.... IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID!!!
