Thanks for sharing.
In my old neighborhood there were quite a few families like this, only they were very unfriendly. Plus, whenever a group of them would go out for a walk (they all lived in different houses, but in the same area) the men and boys over age 10 walked about ten feet in front of all the women and children. Weird!

There is a lot of misinformation about the pentecostal faith going on in this thread.

Did you watch the video? If so, is that kind of stuff they were doing normal for a Pentacostal church? Do they honestly really believe that stuff or do they do it just because they are expected to? Not trying to dis anyone's religion...it just seems so bizarre to me.

Well, I've only given my own impressions of it as a resident in the general area that the Governor lives in.

It's an interesting subject--you were a member? I think that anything you have to say about it would be welcomed in this thread.

What is the misinformation? This is why I started the thread...to get all sides to give input. If something is written that you don't agree with then please say what it is and why you don't agree.

Maybe the mods can do us all a favor and dump some of them.

I am reporting this poster for the constant hijacking of threads and posting the same link over and over again and I suggest everyone else do the same.
You, of all ppl, are complaining about hijacking threads and posting the same link over and over?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????

Yes the video does show what you would see in a pentecostal church. Women do not walk 10 feet behind the men, do not wear long dresses and braids, etc.

I left the church after my first year in college. I attend a nondenominational church now.

They believe in being filled with the Holy Spirit which is why you see people babbling and swaying back and forth. You will also see people fall to the floor after having being slain in the spirit. There is a mass hysteria quality to it but I think some of them are genuine.

So not all Pentecostals wear long dresses or keep their hair pulled back in a braid then? Someone mentioned there being "progressive" churches that didn't do those things so I'm guessing that is the type of church you belonged to.

How would you define being "slain in the spirit"? The mass hysteria...would you say the members kinda feed off each other? To someone like myself it does look so strange and actually a little bit frightening to be honest. I mean, I pray every day but my faith to me is something I'm private about. I just really can't imagine doing those things. Did you ever feel weird about it?

One of the teachings is "That you are in this world but not of this world". You are supposed to hold yourself apart from worldly things. The Church Palin was in appeared more "Charismatic" than "U.P.C" (United Pentacostal Church). The U.P.C., in some instances can be "cultish". Popular "Charismatic" Pastors/teachers are Joel Osteen , T.D. Jakes and Joyce Meyer. In some places in Appalachia Pentacostal sects handle snakes and drink poisen.
