Question Envision an Obama Adminstration...predictions

In the event Obama is elected, here's some of my quick thoughts on what an Obama presidency will bring to America:

- A tax plan and economic package somewhat similar to the Clinton Admnistration's. His first term in office will be focusing on the credit crisis, lowering the deficit, 2009 and 2010 will be rough years, with a recovery by late 2010. I think the deficit, however, is likely to increase slightly in the short term, with a subsequent reduction by half around 2016. His overall approach to governance I think will be more of a "Burkean liberal" approach, without sweeping changes but a more gradual, pragmatic, and bottom-up approaches. Temporarily nationalization of our banking system similar to what the British are moving toward.

- Healthcare: By 2010, universal health care legistlation passed. Though less comprehensive than promised.

- A huge New Deal-type investment in alternate energies, public works projects, urban areas, and infrastructure that will create thousands of jobs and spur economic growth. Fairly broad and bold technology initiatives like universal broadband . I really do think Obama will known as a "technocrat/technology" president.

- William Cohen will be SECDEF again.

- "Don't Ask Don't Tell" will be repealed by his 3rd year in office, forcing Republicans into a "cultural war" election in 2012 (similar to Bob Dole vs. Clinton in 1996), which they will ultimately lose.

-Iraqi withdrawl within 16 months.

- I also think he has the potential to become one of our most revered and deeply admired presidents both here (maintaining at a minimum a 52% approval rating at all times) and especially abroad. There will be an immediate and drastic shift in world public opinion toward the United States under an Obama presidency.

All in all, I think he will be a very successful president and in 2012 will coast to victory against whatever ticket the GOP will come up with, since scanning the political landscape I do no see any particularly strong Republican challengers to go up against an Obama/Biden juggernaut.

Well, based on his voting record, I'm sure he'll simply sign everything the Democratic Congress pushes across his desk, so will he really be "one most revered and deeply admired presidents"?

That's assuming he'll actually sign bills as president and not just write "present" on them.

And yes, maybe create jobs in the energy department, while he doesn't blink an eye putting thousands in the gun industry out of work. What about placing hundreds of thousands in danger *if* he were to do away with CCWs?

He will withdraw the troops and the middle east will erupt in chaos, then he will have to send the troops right back to stop the killing. His approval rating in 2012 will be what Bush's is right now.

Agreed. In my opinion, Obama is the Lincoln of our time.

Well, sounds good and I sincerely hope you are right.

More realistically he will get some things right and some things wrong. I think it likely that will be apt to sign anything and everything brought to him by pelosi and reid. I think healthcare will be on the backburner and most likely will not be revisited due to the economy. I think he will play a bush I when he goes on tv early in his term to say -- oops, I'm gonna have to raise taxes after all. I think some people will be horribly disapointed that an obama presidency will not translate into santa claus handing out goodies .... and they will feel betrayed. I think obama will have at least one confrontation with another world leader where the other leader will lie to obama, and obama will not have seen it coming. On the other hand, I think the OP is correct that obama will be roundly revered around the globe. Plus, I do think it will be cute to have little girls living in the white house again.

So, I don't know....looks like a mixed bag. Hopefully everything will turn out great -- it really depends on who he chooses to be on his cabinet.
