I find it amazing that when this country is now providing federalized support of banks, insurance companies, investment firms, and oil companies, some people think that what will make us "socialist" is providing medical care TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE PAYING FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE.
The point is that there is a huge world of difference between a country with some "socialist" policies and a true Communist country, but some people are too ignorant to tell the difference and too lazy to educate themselves. Never mind that there is no way that Obama could turn the US Communist in 4 years even if he wanted to. The paranoia in this forum is mindblowing--too many gullible people being brainwashed by right wing talk radio...
So why not just go a little towards that way. I understand what a true communist country is. None have every truly been communist. Why not give in when it's so easy right? This is not how Americans should be thinking. Unless the liberalization of the school system truly has worked to remove teaching history. See in history there is this push towards communism they have not gone anywhere. They just change the name of the state. This government was founded by the states. The federal government does not come first and should not. The USSR was responsible for over 30 million deaths as a socialist society. Wanna guess how Cuba, Vietnam became socialist?
Once you go to communism you don't go back without a revolution and most likely you'll just be exterminated if we go by what history tells us. Religion will be removed completely and we will lose our ability to practice it. Guns will be outlawed. Ohh.... if you want to know the rest just go through history we are repeating it.

A point by point refutation of the theoretical and historical inaccuracies would be rather pointless considering the thread authors basic ignorance of such fundamental distinctions between socialism and Marxism, much less the varieties of socialism, or variances within Marxist theories, or for that matter how Keynsians have attempted to ameliorate the social pressures which make socialism, and fascism equally attractive during failures brought on adherents to laissez-faire capitalism.
But I will say this, I know socialist and Obama is no socialist, not by any stretch of the imagination. No strike that, because anyone who believes that Obama is a socialist is a victim of a very stilted, uninformed, and uneducated imagination.
The idea that any President could be more socialist than GW Bush has been is ridiculous.
1. The Medicare Prescription Drug Plan - the largest social program implemented since the 1960's. As a reminder - the government is FORBIDDEN from negotiating lower drug prices under this law.
2. Read the news for the past month. The US government now owns or will own stakes in the majority of all large financial institutions and banks in this country, and will end up owning up to $700 billion of mortgage backed securities.
Obama would have to serve 4 terms to beat this record.

Socialism is the transitional period. Once a government program is installed it never goes back and it never goes away. Why does he not address medicare instead of making a whole new social program like UHC.
