Does anyone expect any of the remaining GOP Senators to switch parties and give the DEMs a 60-vote super-majority?

It may be wishful thinking on my part, but it's happened before and could happen again. Especially since that 60th vote means so much to the DEMs, they could offer a plum committee post to a cross-over.

Would McCain cross over to the DEMs? The main GOP was lukewarm to him at best. His buddy Lieberman might even sweet talk him to come over too. It would be great revenge on the Rovian thugs who sandbagged McCain in the 2000 primary in SC.

Then there are two female GOP Senators in Maine, which went 60% for Obama. Both of these GOP types are fine Senators, but the GOP snubbed them and picked Palin instead because Palin is pro-life. The two Maine GOP Senators are middle of the road on the abortion issue and thus are NOT acceptable to the GOPs evango-fascist whack job faction. I'd love to see BOTH of Maine's Senators switch parties.

Does anyone else know of a middle of the road GOP Senator who might be enticed to switch to the DEM side of the aisle?

Does anyone think such a switch is possible / probable this year.

I don't think so because the GOP moderates that would consider it enjoy strong support in their States.

Usually you need a campaign threat combined with the perks that go along with being in the majority to get someone to cross over.

These aren't normal times. Do not expect normal behavior. Anything can happen. It's happened before. Just today the RNC issued a proclamation that their own GOP sitting president is a Socialist. The GOP is in a world of crap. Rank and file members are switching to Libertarian or DEM or Other parties. It is within the realm of reasonable thought to think that there may be one or more party switchers if the DEMs offer a plum assignment / enticement. Getting that 60th vote is the holy grail now for the DEMs, look for a full court press to get someone to come over.

Too bad Lincoln Chafee didn't run as a dem in 2006. He's the one repub I thought would jump ship. I believe he eventually endorsed Obama. I think the moderate senators, both dem and repub (the former gang of 12) have more clout if they stay with their respective parties, and they probably enjoy being courted for votes by their colleagues.

I tend to agree with you. Many, many Republicans, alienated by the bizarros who've taken over the GOP, voted for Obama--despite his supposed "socialist" beliefs. And. . .the Republican leaders are now accusing each other of being a socialist??? Good lord. Apparently, the Republican party is now officially Wingnut Central.

Irony can sometimes be very funny!!!

Yes, the Republican Party has become the party of socialism!!!

Who would have believed a comment like that would have credibility 10-20 years ago??? But today it actually rings quite true...

And they have the gall to complain about how Obama 'MIGHT' be socialist??? He's actually a minor-league socialist compared to Bush...

My God - Bush/Paulson already committed well over a trillion to socialize the banks, Wall Street, and the auto industry...

Talk about your typical hipocracy!!!

Republicans should not talk about Democrats being poor fiscal stweards of the economy - or 'socialists' - because it is just the ultimate example of the pot calling the kettle black.

If so .... where do real Americans stand?

Are you as Socialist as your Government, or will you stand up and tell your Government to be non-socialist? The way you'd like to be.

Stop voting for jackasses. Regardless of party - don't give them a pass.

If this Nation becomes Socialistic, it will be because you voted for it. Or hesitated to vote against it.

By the way, the Great Depression could have been a lot less terrible if the Democratic Congress at the time wouldn't have pushed more money on bankers and industry. Blame whoever you want for that. But if Democrats want to be Democrats, they will do the same thing again. Very sly to say that they are for "the people". Every time Americans learn that they ( Democrats in Congress ) are only out for themselves.

To be apathetic is to be clueless. If you have zombies in your house, it because you let it happen.

I guess I see what you're looking for here. The general election really couldn't have gone much better for the Democrats. I congratulate you. But your party still can't quite celebrate just yet. The gay members and their supporters were dealt serious set backs buy having DOMAs enacted in several states. The peace at any price crowd got a huge slap in the face when Robert Gates was kept on as Secretary of Defense and James Jones named as National Security Adviser. Looks like all that anti-war stuff was just to get votes. And I guess he doesn't want any more pastor problems because he picked Rick Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration. NARAL and GLAAD most be really upset about that. Maybe they'll come around. I guess Clinton got a gig anyways. That's good right? Still she isn't any closer to the presidency. I guess that glass ceiling is still hanging over her head. The tax increase on fat cats is DOA along with telecom accountability and a quick withdrawal from Iraq. Looks like the only one trying to change parties is Obama. Have a nice day.
