In trying to sidestep the legislative investigation into "Troopergate" Palin and the McCain campaign insisted that the proper investigative authority rested with the state Personnel Board. At first this was seen as a set up since the Personnel Board is appointed by the governor, but who knew they would take their job seriously.
The Board appointed an independent council, Timothy Petumenos, an Anchorage trial lawyer who indicates that not only is he looking into the Governors abuse of power in the Wooten case but also other areas of complaint as well.
Why is this such a big problem? It will be hard for Gov. Palin or the McCain campaign to spin any negative findings from the investigation that Palin ordered, and by the Board that she insisted oversee it.
