I was confused and don't get me wrong I think Autism is the most on the rise issues. But the first time he said it he was talking about Palin knows better than anyone. Palin child is Downs. One thing I can say because I know parents who have had to face Autism. They usually have to fight for whatever help there children get. Sometimes if it is the lighter form of Autism you fight with the doctors to eveb test your child. Downs children have more of a medical issues. I was just confused about why he kept saying Autism because it sounded like he didn't know what Palin's child had.

because he is desperate for "angles" to win the debate. He has no other avenues to go down, so he threw this one out to see if he could strike a cord in the hearts of the voters that have children with disabilities. Same reason he chose Palin.....not because she is qualified, but because she is a woman and he wants to strike a cord with the women voters. The man is losing, he knows it...his desperation has become obvious at this point. Sad.

I was offended as a parent of a child on the spectrum. The man has no clue about the issue and his running mate has even less of a clue of what we have to face.

It's a play to women and families with autistic children, which is a growing group. He may have bagged that group of voters (the families with autistic children) just by mentioning it before anyone else thought to. It was low-hanging fruit. It had nothing to do with winning the debate.

I wondered about that also. Autism and Downs are two completely different things. He really did act like he has no idea which issue the palin family is facing.

I think he was speaking about special needs children in general and Palin's desire to concentrate on that as one of her issues. I am sure he knows her child is Down's Syndrome, but mentioned autism because it is affecting more and more children.

I think Palin's nephew is autistic - her sister's child.

He wants to help special needs children while freezing all spending, great way to help special needs families.
