Ahh....an "independent contractor" who's been working for the same firm for 10 years?? If that was the case, it sounds like the plumbing company owner has been trying to avoid paying taxes on his "employee" by classifying him incorrectly as an "independent contractor" all these years- the boss might want to read the IRS's criteria for determining who's a subcontractor and who's an employee. If he was an "independent contractor", he'd also need to be licensed (which he isn't), and the state licensing board would be interested in hearing about that......

We don't know anything about this guy. We know he is divorced and owes taxes. That's it. He could be lazy or the hardest working man alive. Who knows. I think the criticism and scrutiny is more about McCain's attempt to exploit this guy as an example of someone who will be impacted on the slight increase on income above $250K (remember the first $250K you earn will not be raised and in fact will likely be lowered). This guy makes one sixth of that amount. Unless a miracle occurs in this guy's life, there is no way he will be "hurt" (to the extent a small increase on the income earned above $250K hurts anyone) by Obama's plan.

Wow, you liberals are so full of hate even when your guy is in the lead. Sad!

Liberals hate it when anyone doesn't lob softballs to their lord.

I agree with you. Will be interesting if suddenly he has more money in his account with McCains signature.

I have people who have been working for me for 16 years and are contractors. They also have work from other companies. Your point?

Who says an IC has to be licensed?

What are the odds that a random guy earning $40k/yr as an unlicensed plumber employee who happens to be related to Charles Keating of McCain's old scandal shows up at a Obama rally making odd statements about how Obama's tax plan might adversely affect his (nonexistent) plans to buy his employer's plumbing business? And he's got a lien from IRS for back taxes ($1200 is a lot for someone making $40k/yr). And this is the guy McCain dredges up to make a point?

It is an awful lot of coincidences, especially considering how little he actually know about buying a business or the tax proposals.

Odds are he was a plant, badly prepped and vetted, then used. Too many coincidences there to be really random.

For the millionth time, he did not show up at an Obama rally. Obama showed up in HIS neighborhood. So unless Obama was in on the "plant" that you are convinced of, it didn't happen.

If the state says that in order to practice a trade you need to be then yup the state of Ohio has said. Some Doctors work for HMO's and some hang out their own shingle. Now are you suggesting that self employed Doctors shouldn't have to be licensed if just because those who work for a HMO are.
