Default And there you have it, the October surprise!

McCain's appearance at Alfred E. Smith dinner. You got to see the real McCain, what a class act. A house full of Democrats nonetheless. And they all stood and gave him a standing round of applause. If McCain looses (and I don't think he will) he has a nice fallback career.

Shame on those of you who say dems are mean, see how polite they are!

He was great.

Now the bad news:

Tomorrow Keith Olbermann will run some clips from this McCain appearance, not reference the dinner, hope his audience doesn't even know what it is, and talk about how McCain isn't taking the election seriously. He'll find something McCain said and declare it racism. He'll get very dramatic and talk about how all of these people were laughing at him.

And the good news:

More people will read this thread than see Keith's show.

I guess you're going to suggest baton twirling as a barometer next?

The Republicans and Democrats are two parties that no longer are at opposing sides; they're very much alike these days. They have BOTH moved very far left, with the exception in areas such as abortion.

JFK would be considered a hard core conservative today if he were alive. I still believe he was the last great President.

Think about it folks. Try to look beyond the small picture of your party and think with your minds.

BTW, I am a conservative independent and don't subscribe to the current Republican philosophy of spend, spend, spend and war mongering.

Lots of Presidential nominees have attended this event for years. They probably all received applause.
