No. If as many people support him as the media and this forum shows us, there shouldn't be any problems.

Possible McCain / Palin supporter?

There is a race problem in this country, people are shouting "Kill Him" at Republican rallies, and Republicans aren't even chastising these people for their very racist and anti-American behavior. Since the venom against him from extremists is beyond the pale, his security should be matched to meet the threat. Another Kennedy situation would destabilize this country, and the man doesn't deserve to die just because some insane yahoos are threatened by a non-Caucasian being President of the United States.

So, you refute my point that there are more crazy wingnuts who act out violently by posting a list of 4 assassination attempts. Of those, one was foreign and two were just crazy people. One was a right-wing gun nut.

Thanks for supporting my point.

Why might he actually need more security - that's the question!

For some reason right has been left out of this post....hm....

However, there's a difference. When the far right starts yelling "Kill him!" there are a few who will think about doing it. Right wingers are notorious for following through on their violent fantasies. Whether it's Oklahoma City or abortion providers or UU churches, a tiny minority of wingnuts are absolutely insane enough to carry out the threat.

The way that you McCain/Palin supporters here have been throwing out accusations about how Obama plans to destroy America, or how he's a terrorist - you are creating the atmosphere for some of the more certifiable crazies among you to carry out "justice."

You can argue that you don't intend for that to happen. But you are disregarding the additional threat that your side poses. Willfully.

Yes. IME, the higher your income level, the lower crime area you tend to live (suburbs) and the more civil your behavior. It's not the ghetto that causes the culture, but the culture that causes the ghetto.

Assuming (and I don't agree with this assumption) but assuming that the only people who might react violently would be blacks, there are many blacks living in suburbs across this country. This isn't Ozzie and Harriet country, and hasn't been for a long time.
People living in suburbs, white, black and brown, aren't going to riot. They actually have something to lose.

I'm not sure they'd riot either but I think him being elected then assassinated has the potential to rip this country apart. That or it will bring us together as nothing else will - depending on who is doing the shooting.

I think the more likely is that there would be a lot of protests and rallies in this street and those do always have the potential to get out of hand and turn violent.

All US Presidents are in danger of being assassinated. I have worried for eight years about something happening to Bush with all the hatred spewed toward him. No, I don't think Obama needs or should have more security than any other presidents have had.

On the flip side, one could argue that McCain would need more security because black people would be made Obama wasn't elected and might attempt to assassinate McCain. That is no different than what you are saying may happen if Obama is elected.

No, I don't think either of them need extra security. Our presidents are already closely guarded.

The FBI investigated that claim of "kill him" and said it was NOT true; didn't happen.

It only takes one crazy, racist nutbag. and as evidenced by McCain/Palin rallies, there are plenty of them out there.
