Yeah, like the guy wouldn't see the messiah display in the front yard. Can you imagine GG NOT having an Obama sign in his yard? Not a friggin chance.
Actually we do have an Obama sign in the front yard, but the canvasser only has the names of the type of voter he is going for, he doesn't know the affiliation of those whose names he doesn't have on his list.

It's a simple concept really, when people register to vote (in our state anyway) they can specify a party affiliation, R, D, G, L, or Unaffiliated. Then there is thing called a computer generated list, that allows campaigns to sort by whichever data bit they want. Another concept that may be hard for some of you to grasp is that not everyone under the same roof votes the same way.

I knock on some doors with R registered voters but sometimes talk to an Obama supporter and I'm not at all bashful (neither is any good canvasser) about knocking on a door with a McCain sign in the yard. Never gotten a rude welcome from them, but one did try what I did!

When recruiters are serious, they ignore all the signs...even literal ones. We have two very nice Jehovah's Witnesses (two young men) come to my gate every single year but it's a different pair each year. Now this church HAS to already know I'm some sort of hybrid-religion freak or what-have-you but...they just keep on showing up. I'm nice to them just because they're very young and I know they must do it as part of their belief system but let me tell you, the first time they came to my door I was putting up the most hideously gory bordering-on-Satanic Halloween decorations ever, LOL. If that isn't the sign of a person who isn't ready to convert, I'm not quite sure what is.

The punch line? The first pair helped me put up the Halloween decorations. I mean that is how seriously nice they are, LOL.

As far as "stories" about keeping people there, oh man. My ex-husband did this, again, to two religious people (I don't know for sure that they were JWs, though). He and I had just broken up and apparently he was so sad that he spilled to them. In detail. For, I don't know. An hour? More? At the end of it they were just backing up with fearful smiles on their faces and making excuses to leave, LOL. (My ex brother-in-law told me this story.) So yeah. It happens, unwittingly or not.

And anyone who has a modicum of a sense of humor is at least cracking a grin at golfgod's story.

How did you get young Jehovahs? I only get old one's and I wouldn't be able to put them to work putting up Halloween decor!

I don't know. You want me to give them your address? I'm telling you, and may God forgive me but they're usually eye candy to boot. Maybe I've been subscribing to the wrong religion after all...One dude was at least 6'5"...his opening line was that I could call him "shorty" (I'm five foot one)...they're funny at that. I'll send them over to your place next time when they're done helping me with my decorations! (I have to tell you, I never asked them to. They offered.)

And they're in shape because they ride their bikes everywhere. (fanning self)

Oh, bear in mind that "young" to me is early 20s...I'm 41...may not be young to everyone but to an old bat like me, they're babes in the woods (my oldest son is 22).

Morality is a bourgeois construct and a socialist should reject it. Check.

Oh, no. Sorry. (embarrassed) I always put the pamphlets into recycling (not while they're watching) so perhaps I've been wrong about their religion all along. Yes, they wear white shirts and dark slacks. They also wear ties. Their shirts are short-sleeve button-down ones because it's warm here nearly all year-round (southern California).

OneThousand: Morality? Having a little fun with political canvassers who come, unsolicited and almost certainly unwanted, knocking at your door? Hey. They take their lumps. And when they do...those of us who know how to crack a grin, generally do so. (OH, and p.s.... Pssssssst! "Bourgeois" as an insult is so...gauche. Not to mention very very 70s.)
