Thank God the reign of the Republicans is about to end:

"In a television appearance that outraged Democrats are already describing as Joseph McCarthy politics, Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann claimed on Friday that Barack Obama and his wife Michelle held anti-American views and couldn't be trusted in the White House. She even called for the major newspapers of the country to investigate other members of Congress to "find out if they are pro-America or anti-America."

Here is to hoping the people of the 6th Congressional district of Minnesota vote her out in a few weeks.

Michelle Bachmann is possibly the only woman who is crazier than Palin.

Unfortunately, not that many under 40 or 50 know how hideous the McCarthy era was

- one of the darkest (non-war) periods in American history since slavery.

My buddy, who is a bigger movie fan than I am just yelled at the screen; "go sell crazy somewhere else lady, we're all stocked up". Jack Nicholson from "As Good As It Gets".

I agree. It was horrible, and the far right sounds just like the McCarthiests of the 1950's. I thought that the country had matured and that we would never have that again. I pray we don't.

Many of those who were imprisoned, lost their jobs or were questioned by committees did in fact have a past or present connection of some kind with the Communist Party. But for the vast majority, both the potential for them to do harm to the nation and the nature of their communist affiliation were tenuous. Suspected homosexuality was also a common cause for being targeted by McCarthyism. According to some scholars, this resulted in more persecutions than did alleged connection with Communism.

In the film industry, over 300 actors, authors and directors were denied work in the U.S. through the unofficial Hollywood blacklist. Blacklists were at work throughout the entertainment industry, in universities and schools at all levels, in the legal profession, and in many other fields. A port security program initiated by the Coast Guard shortly after the start of the Korean War required a review of every maritime worker who loaded or worked aboard any American ship, regardless of cargo or destination. As with other loyalty-security reviews of McCarthyism, the identities of any accusers and even the nature of any accusations were typically kept secret from the accused. Nearly 3,000 seamen and longshoremen lost their jobs due to this program alone.

Was? Substitute 'socialist' or 'terroorist' for 'communist' in many of McCarthy's drunken rants and they fit right into much of today's political rhetoric.

You guys/gals disagree with history? You disagree that the people who want collectivism despise us and will stop at nothing to change us as they see imperialism as the polar opposite of their desires and with it around world wide communism can never happen. Why do you suppose USSR collapsed?
