i know that people keep hoping something will clinch the deal for obama, but americans do not want more government spending and more taxes. powell is an african-american who endorsed an african-american candidate. it is just one person's opinion and one person's vote. you have got to get over the fact that you think some votes count more than others in this country!
Factor in the number of non 'Black' people who will not vote for Obama being mixed race-----------that may very well cancel out the 90% AA's in favor of the man. The non Hispanic Black population is maybe 12% in the USA--------and declining as a percentage.
Translation: it will be us non Hispanic Whites who will be the kingmaker.
Powell was articulate, genuine, and absolutely nailed it.
Agreed. It's a wonderful endorsement for Obama. McCain should be very worried now--even moreso than last week. I think his campaign is done, for the most part.
If Obama doesn't win at this point, it would be a complete shock. I do think the country is definitely moving towards electing Obama. We will know 100% on Nov 5, but this endorsement really shored up a lot of the independents and "Republicans-on-the-fence vote."
Wrong again, the topic is Powells endorsement ... of Obama (added by GreenGene for clarity & accuracy).
Re: thread title: Reaction to Powell's Obama Endorsement: "Nail in the Coffin" for McCain"
Yes, I think it is a nail, the most recent nail, in McCain's coffin. To have such a prominent, well-respected, and extremely experienced Republican endorse Obama is huge, whether it was anticipated or not. And it will certainly have an impact on many of the undecided voters out there, especially active and retired military.
Also, for many people who were going to vote for Obama anyway, the Powell endorsement serves to reassure them that their judgment of Obama is correct in the opinion of someone with the stature of Colin Powell.

Oprah endorsed him too. Whoopie Goldberg loves Obama and hates McCain. The NBA loves Obama.
America is full of black people who are voting for Obama because he's black and they're ethnocentric racists.
End of story!
I thought it was worth noting that the consensus was that his endorsement was a "nail in the coffin." Not so with the others you named. McCain didn't consider Whoopi "one of the most honest people I know", and didn't consider Oprah as a possible running mate like Powell. Powell is considered very, very significant and a slap in the face of McCain. This on top of Obama's favorable poll numbers, greater donations, 3 of 3 wins in debates, an obviously superior VP pick, other endorsements out the ying-yang, an increasingly acknowledgement that his is the most intelligent, most qualified, most inspirational, most presidential person between the two. Yes, it is all significant to your dismay.
About black people voting for Obama because he's black, anyone who says that is a racist and definitely in some sort of private agony, real personal hell, at the rise of Obama. Tough, but apparently this year, you and your ilk can't stop progress as you did in '00 and '04 in supporting the village idiot. This year, the far superior candidate is a man called Obama, a brilliant fellow who happens to have a black father.
The fat lady ain't singing yet. But the orchestra has started tuning up and the concert will soon begin. Things are moving in a happy direction.
