Default Joe Six Pack Gets Fooled Again; The Rise of Sarah Palin.

Small town hockey mom? Try overly ambitious puppet of the very Washington elite that she harangues against in her stump speeches.

The New Yorker (Warning to McCainites; Lot of big words) lays out the raw ambition, and inside the belt-way elitist who have help to shape the chimera, Sarah Palin:

Quote:
Palin’s sudden rise to prominence, however, owes more to members of the Washington élite than her rhetoric has suggested. Paulette Simpson, the head of the Alaska Federation of Republican Women, who has known Palin since 2002, said, “From the beginning, she’s been underestimated. She’s very smart. She’s ambitious.” John Bitney, a top policy adviser on Palin’s 2006 gubernatorial campaign, said, “Sarah’s very conscientious about crafting the story of Sarah. She’s all about the hockey mom and Mrs. Palin Goes to Washington—the anti-politician politician.” Bitney is from Wasilla, Palin’s home town, and has known her since junior high school, where they both played in the band. He considers Palin a friend, even though after becoming governor, in December, 2006, she dismissed him. He is now the chief of staff to the speaker of the Alaska House.

Upon being elected governor, Palin began developing relationships with Washington insiders, who later championed the idea of putting her on the 2008 ticket. “There’s some political opportunism on her part,” Bitney said. For years, “she’s had D.C. in mind.” He added, “She’s not interested in being on the junior-varsity team.”

I've heard it said that the Republicans used Palin (like a puppet) ;but, I've always said she is using them too. This so called "hockey mom" has an agenda of her own.

I don't begrudge anyone with ambition or an agenda.. but let her speak more to the press... unscripted.. and forever quell the rumor that she is not intelligent and not ready to lead.

There is a difference between being intelligent and being manipulative. Thus far, we have seen her be disingenuous and manipulative but scarce evidence of intelligence.

Of course it is a mutual exploitation, the point that I would like to make is that the entire "maverick" persona is a well crafted facade which goes to two other points; one Sarah Palin is a demagogue spewing the same "white working class" patriotic drivel while serving the same, and antithetical, interest that she harangues against, and second in that regard she does have an uncanny resemblance to as Congressman Lewis so aptly pointed out and amplified by Diane McWhorter writing for George Wallace"]Slate.com[/url].

This thread is about the rise of Sarah Palin, not the rise of all politicians. But since you must.....I knew early on that Sarah just didn't fall into the Washington trap as many perceived...it was part of her political agenda to land in Washington..which is not the agenda of all politicians.

It is indeed clearly noted that this "maverick" persona was carefully, though I won't say cleverly threaded. Sarah Palin contradicts herself consistently and foolishly.

I acknowledge your point if I can add this caveat; The persona was well crafted but it was draped around the wrong actor.
