As is anyone who votes against someone because they think he is an arab, a muslim, is a "socialist" (when both parties are now after the bailout) or because they support "terrorism against America".
Why as the republicans can use the democrats own words againnst Powell.Basically they say he lacked judegment and lied to the peole and to the UN. He certainly was a insider.
Thing is it's really kinda stupid. Powell is the one who spoke before the UN for 80 min. urging other nations to join us in our new war. Both Clintons supported the war as did most of the lawmakers who now endorse Obama. He now has put himself on the other side of all these lawmakers who did what they did because they absolutely had to be right. They didn't have the luxury of talking against the war or voting present and hoping it would all just go away. Americans hate a Monday morning quarterback. Powell's presence is a reminder that people back then had to take a stand and not just snipe at those who did. It's called accountability.
But what if "Monday morning" in Iraq resulted in the capture of Bin Laden and the collection/destruction of these Weapons of Mass Destruction?? Obama's contrarian statements were in play well before any outcomes were determined in the Iraqi war. He would have been dead in the water politically if Osama was captured, we thwarted the purported nuclear threats and were out of this mess in as efficient a timeline as projected. Hillary would have talked about her support for the war from the start and Obama probably doesn't even get a whiff of money to enter the primaries. The entire primary landscape might have also changed, with the economy taking center stage and our international war receding even more than it has...Probably looking at a Clinton/Romney election.

If it were most other people I would agree with you.
However, in the case of Obama many people have worried about his lack of experience and whether or not he could handle things in a time of crisis. Pre-Palin that was one of the main things McCain harped on - as did other Dems in the primary.
As such, Powell's endorsement potentially gives a fair amount of weight in that area.
Powell endorsing Obama does not change the FACT that he has NO experience and not that person I would want in charge if we have another 9/11. Powell can babble all he wants that Obama is ready, I base my decision on his record not on Powell's personal view.

On my way to work this morning, I listened to Laura Ingram whine and moan long and loud about the Powell endorsement. Some of the phrases used were, "Powell is no longer relevant" "He's always been overrated" "He was never a true Republican" and "We're better off without him".
It's been awhile since I've encountered grapes that sour.
Colin Powell's endorsement of Barack Obama does matter, despite the howls from the right that "no endorsement by anyone matters". If that were true why would Buchanan, Limbaugh and the rest of the right wing shouters be so incensed?
Exactly! And an endorsement made on the day before early voting begins en masse is a brilliant maneuver, too.

Oh, I can do you one better Old Gringo. I was on my lunch break and caught Rush in my car. He said "Colin Powell is in it for Colin Powell", that his endorsement is an act of "Betrayal" against the Republicans who made him a success (as if he didn't have the right stuff himself), and that he only wants to be liked by the NY/Washington power axis. I was so furious I shouted at the radio, I was so disgusted. (And I'm no shouter)
I didn't think they'd do it, but the talk radio guys are so far off the deep end that they're willing to smear a four star general, who served the U.S. in so many capacities--simply because he didn't endorse their candidate. I guess they're only pro-military if the soldier supports their candidate.
