Isn't it amazing how many people that live in the lower 48 think they are experts on Alaska?...You tell 'em my queen.
It's been the most disheartening thing about this election.

And Palin didn't say that she could see Russia from her house. That was a Tina Fey skit.

It was actually Cindy McCain that said Palin has national security experience because Alaska is close to Russia. Palin told Couric "I can see Russia from Alaska".

My apologies. Being a resident of Chicago, I've been annoyed with the sudden nationwide experts of Hyde Park and Chicago politics. So, I wrote that wrong. She took advantage of the higher fuel prices to secure an additional $1200 for every citizen of Alaska.

But the point remains, this is a pretty blatant redistribution of wealth, something far more advanced than anything Obama is proposing, which Palin criticizes for that very fact. So I'd like to see someone explain the inconsistency.

I always thought it was this that prompted the Tina Fey skit; hadn't heard about the remark to Cindy McCain.

"GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.

Obama is actually proposing something similar.

If that's the case, how can you vote for Sarah Palin, who governs over the most "socialistic" state in the country?

After all, not only do they tax the profits of oil companies to give a check to every Alaskan, but the state receives more federal funds by far -pork if you will - than any other state in the union. This despite the fact that they are near the bottom in terms of income tax contributions to the federal government.

In short, me, you and the oil companies are distributing our wealth to Alaskans, many of whom belong to a party, the AIP, so anti-american that their founder refused to be buried in our country.

But what's more scary is that they don't even hide thier intentions. John McCain already warned us that he wants the government, our tax dollars, to buy up every every distressed mortgage at peak value, a value that will not be seen for decades. We can't afford that kind of socialism. Socialism socialism socialism.

That's why Obama wants to cut taxes on the middle and working class. Because he knows we're tired of paying for Sarah Palin's bridges to nowhere.

You make a number of uniformly illogical points here.

Who owns the oil and gas in AK?

The Alaskans do.

"they are near the bottom in terms of income tax contributions to the federal government."

How many people live in AK?

How many are native Alaskans?

" he wants the government, our tax dollars, to buy up every every distressed mortgage at peak value"

Link? Quote? Proof?

"That's why Obama wants to cut taxes on the middle and working class."

Where have I heard that before?

"In selling his economic plan, President Clinton is gambling that voters never took seriously his campaign promise to lower the tax burden of the middle class and will respond favorably to an aggressive pitch based on equal measures of hope, fear and class revenge."

And how did we get into this situation?

No Clinton didn't cut taxes, and he didn't more than double the National Debt, like Bush did, and Bush also cut taxes on the wealthy. Funny how those 2 events coincide.

I believe that you are either full of it, or uninformed. Please allow me to tech you something about the PDF. This fund was created by a group of Alaskans, and the money comes from taxes imposed on the oil business of Alaska. So, the State of Alaska can take the money and waste it on nothing important, but if they do so, every member of the legislature would be voted out in a short order, because the money belongs to the people of Alaska, not the government of Alaska.

The Permanent Dividend Fund (official name for the money Alaskans get) is one small part of a larger organization (Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation). It was voted on by Alaskans in 1976 and changed the Alaska constitution. For more information (I don't feel like cutting and pasting this much text) go to the following website Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation.

The PDF check that comes once a year is in effect a rebate check similar to what President Bush gave to most of us this past year (BTW, thanks for the new TV President Bush!). The purpose of Bush's rebate was to spur the economy, and every year the PDF does the same for the Alaskan economy.

Oh, and to those who say they get the money for just breathing, I have this to say. Have you lived in Alaska? I have and the only place I have ever been to that compared to it was Iceland. It is expensive to live up there and it is hard to live up there. And remember there are some restrictions on those who get the fund, you have to have lived there for at least a year prior to the application date (In my case it was there for 18 months before I was eligible), you must intend to remain in Alaska, and you can not be a felon.

And that is all I have to say about that. (Sorry, Forrest Gump was on cable tonight, couldn't help it )
