His legacy will be the death of the republican party as we know it and the election of the first black president in US history. Not sure if it's worth the damage 8 years of his "leadership" caused, but at least it's sort of a silver lining.

Sure, he lost in the popular election and won by a couple thousand votes in Florida, as the votes were being recounted for possible fraud, W and his staff already moved into the White House. The media painted a picture of Gore being "incompetent and boring" while W not the brightest guy had quite a sense of humor. The media loved poking fun of him and even negative publicity is still publicity. The people bought into the media once again and here we are once again ...

Agreed. For me, the concept of everything happening for a reason requires faith in something greater than ourselves. Unfortunately, many people cannot begin to grasp this. Hence, the negative comments. Thanks for the positive post amidst a sea of rubbish.
