Actually I'm a grown woman...er, actually a grandmother with a pretty decent education and background. I'm just not one to put up with repeated attempts by hoodlums coming and yelling things at me as they deface or remove my right to free speech. As a woman, I would feel threatened that something more (escalation) would be in their minds since they keep coming back. I call it self defense by prevention methods.

Since I'm a single, white, middle-aged woman, a car with male teenagers coming up to my yard repeatedly and doing what's in the report would have more impact. Under those terms I would be fearing for my personal safetly. It's all about perspective depending on your demographics etc.

Well they couldn't of been too bright to begin with doing it when the person is clearly home, even on his porch from what's been said. Sounds like the little thugs wanted attention, they got it.

The guy was outside according to the report so I doubt they were trying to conceal themselves ESPECIALLY at 2 in the AFTERNOON.

Someone running towards you screaming like that kid did, would fall within the law as a legitimate reason. Quite reasonable to feel in danger in that situation.

I make jokes, get sarcastic, argue relentlessly and generally try to make my point on this forum. But this is something that just isn't in the same category as arguing politics...even nutty politics. This is a young life we are discussing and seriously....really, really seriously....some of you people scare the heck out of me. You honestly scare me.

...not sure where you practice law but I really beg to differ... deadly force is the last resort and the law deals with it accordingly. Most states make it clear through statute AND caselaw regarding this issue... you cannot shoot people in most states for "defending property ALONE". There must be a coupled threat of immediate harm to a person or person(s)...usually inside the dwelling...

and, luckily, that life was not lost, but the landowner was acting in such a way as to preserve his own life. Think about it. You are sitting on your porch, reading bleeding heart monthly or rolling stone or something and a van pulls up. The side door slides open and a young black male jumps out screaming at you. How would you react? Have you ever been a victim before? have you ever had your life threatened? It is a scary thing, I can't say I'd have reacted differently, I have been sitting on my porch and assaulted for no reason, had i a firearm, i would not have been assaulted.
