Quotes from Obama's Book 1: I choose Marxists for friends.
Quotes from Obama's Book regarding Marxism:
Barack Obama laughs off charges of socialism. Joe Biden scoffs at references to Marxism.
Obama himself acknowledges that he was drawn to socialists and even Marxists as a college student. He continued to associate with Marxists later in life, even choosing to launch his political career in the living room of a self-described Marxist, William Ayers, in 1995, when Obama was 34.
"To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully," Obama wrote in his memoir, "Dreams From My Father." "The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists."
After college, Obama states lived on Manhattan's Upper East Side, venturing to the East Village for what he called "the socialist conferences I sometimes attended at Cooper Union."

Fun2Day, have you even stepped foot on a college campus?
What Obama is saying in this passage is how self-conscious he was being at this point in his youth. He wanted to fit into the intellectual mainstream of sorts of university life.
The fact that both Fox News and you both fail to read context sufficiently is disappointing.

I went to college for 4 years, earned my Bachelor's degree...went another 2 years and earned my Masters....had many intellectual friends and many intellectual discussions....met all kinds of people from many different backgrounds and political persuasions, but never sought out Marxist, Communist, or Socialist friends. (and back then I was much more liberal-thinking than I am now) This is not a normal part of campus life...only for the political radicals.

So...in context...what are you saying? That, in a round-a-bout way, what Obama said, or published while in college, should be taken with a (very) large grain of salt, and not be taken literally? Because he...uh...basically lied? That by doing so it somehow helped him to "fit in" with the college scene, at the time...?
Uh...ok...

Disappointing indeed. Sad, really.
