I vividly remember Reagan - I was just out of college... He was definitely inspirational.... but of course we were just coming out of a very gloomy economic period - interest rates were around 20% for a time, our hostages had been in Iran seemingly forever, and we seemed to be in a downward trajectory.

Looking back,it was only within the past 5 or 6 years or so that I could see that the environment that would lea to the downturn in middle class living standards, good jobs, and affordable health care all started with him... due in large part to his free trade, anti-regulation philosophy and trickle down economic beliefs...

It's a shame that the McCain supporters don't yet realize that the Republican party has done nothing but play them for SUCKERS for the past 28 years...

Sometimes blind faith and loyalty dies a very slow, painful death...

I agree...

Thankfully the last nail will be put in the caskets of 'trickle down economics', neconservatism, and borrow-and-spend on Tuesday...

Default Now for the facts.

Obama will be just as transformational. First, it will mark the end of 28 consecutive years of conservative rule... Second - it will usher in an embracing of the political process by blacks, hispanics and other minorities that have felt discouraged to participate in the past. Thirdly - it will restore the notion that we are our brother's keeper - and that government should not exist to server only the rich and powerful, but to also protect and raise up and strengthen the weakest and most downtrodden amongst us...
Well....

1. Unions have destroyed the auto industry by making it impotent in it's ability to change with the times. 25 billion didn't help them. Now they are asking for 50 billion half of which will go to retirement plans and wages and benefits.

I agree - the UAW did over-reach and demanded too much - especially the rule where they get 95% of base pay for up to 2 years during layoffs... No company can be competitive with that kind of labor agreement.

However, I think a much more important factor in the Big 3's problems is the skyrocketing cost of health insurance.

As a matter of national competitiveness, I think we need National Health Insurance - a single-payer system - and get health insurance off the backs of our corporations, without screwing the insured working person - as McCain wanted to do...

I'm not feeling the pride. Definitely felt it with Reagan. Obama is no Reagan.

I really think that Oabam will have a hardtime matching the changes that went on during Reagan's two terms;especailly in the internation front. He starts out with a recession just has reagan had and that could take eight years by itself before it really works itself out. Reagan was lucky to get two terms but he might not have without the internation successes.
