Just ask George Armstrong Custer!
Or Jimmy Carter.
Or FDR.
Or Abe Lincoln.
Clearly military training prepares one well to handle the military, and lack of it guarantees doom.

Serving in the military is NOT a requirement for being President - nor a guarantee that one will be a successful leader. Here is a list of some of the Presidents who had NO military experience. Some were good Presidents, some were not so good - and some were GREAT.
John Adams
Thomas Jefferson
John Quincy Adams
Martin Van Buren
Grover Cleveland
William Taft
Woodrow Wilson
Warren Harding
Calvin Coolidge
Herbert Hoover
Franklin Roosevelt
Bill Clinton

To me, we can't just consider how he goofed off at the Naval Academy and only graduated with some major strings pulled by his daddy. That alone isn't good , but people do change and learn.
Looking deeper, however, we learn that he was a horrible pilot too and crashed 5 planes. No matter what excuses he has for that, anyone without his pedigree would have been stripped of their wings, without question.
Then there is the very troubling account of his response to the famous fire on the USS Forrestal. Where was McCain when "all hands on deck" was called? He ran to the pilot's ready room where he stayed as the fire burned on deck and many men lost their lives. McCain must be so ashamed of that cowardly behavior in his heart. Anyone else probably would have been dishonorably discharged for it.
Spectator: "All hands on deck"
He also was passed over for promotion. If the Navy didn't feel he was qualified to promote to Admiral, why should we promote him to Commander in Chief?
I give credit to McCain for his POW days and I feel horrible that he had to endure that but it doesn't change the fact that for most of McCain's military career, he apparently used his Admiral's son status wrongly and was not a very honorable man.

In the last half century, America has not done well with Presidents who have had military experience.
Many have blown it big time!
John F. Kennedy &
Lyndon Johnson -- Got us into Vietnam, Johnson declined to run for re-election JFK's death prevented us from giving him all the credit for the Nam
Richard M. Nixon-- Watergate, only President to resign, only Jerry the Pardoner kept his sorry ass out of jail.
Gerald R. Ford, Only man to never have been elected President, faught the Battle of Wrong Island (Cambodia). Demonstarted real resolve when a US soldier was hacked to death by N. Koreans.
Jimmy Carter =Passed his interview with Hyman Rickover but still voted out of Office.
George H. W. Bush -- Like poor ol'Jimmy voted out of Office with a smaller share of the vote than Jimmy!
George W. Bush -- On track to destroying a Superpower. America's answer to Mikhail Gorbachov.
Al Gore and John Kerry have the same military petigree but ineptness above and beyond the call of duty prevented America finding out whether they had the stuff to join this list.

At least he graduated instead of using his time to get high on cocaine.
Do you think every doctor or lawyer you ever had graduated in the top of their class? Someone has to come in last in every ranking.

McCain's drug of choice was alcohol - which (even by his own admission) he consumed in considerable quantities. Like George Bush, he was quite a partier when he was a young man.
As I said, NO ONE is voting for EITHER candidate as wild young men. We are voting for WHO and WHAT they are TODAY.
