McCain spent six weeks in the hospital while receiving marginal care.[33] By then having lost 50 pounds (23 kg), in a chest cast, and with his hair turned white

McCain was sent to a different camp on the outskirts of Hanoi[40] in December 1967, into a cell with two other Americans who did not expect him to live a week.[41] In March 1968, McCain was put into solitary confinement, where he would remain for two years.[42]

In August 1968, a program of severe torture began on McCain.[45] He was subjected to rope bindings and repeated beatings every two hours, at the same time as he was suffering from dysentery.[33][45] Further injuries led to the beginning of a suicide attempt, stopped by guards.

I don't disagree that he was tortured.
The implication that I argue against was that he was tortured constantly for 5 years.

From late 1969 onward, treatment of McCain and many of the other POWs became more tolerable
Tolerable - what does that mean?
But from that short wikipedia article - sounds like he had a really rough 2 years and then things were tolerable.

This site has gone to the trouble of collecting some of McCain's lies.

That link also talks of his opposition to subsidies for wind and solar energy, while supporting subsidies for nuclear power.

More on Sarah Palin: 16 years public service (city council, mayor and govenor), 8 years executive experience, command of Alaska national guard as governor which gives her high security clearance in war on terror and nuclear alert system as governor of a state strategically located. She took on her own party and corruption in her state as well as the oil commision and union bosses, forged bipartisan consensus, balanced the budget and negotiated with Canadian officials to forward our energy independence, is building the biggest and most important project towards our energy independence, fought to give back to the people of Alaska dividends from the oil company, has run a fishing business successfully for years with her husband.

Geraldine Ferraro's qualifications when she ran:

Attractive mother of three
Lawyer, private practice; assistant DA, N.Y., 1974-1978
Elected to Congress, served from 1979-1985
Selected to run for Vice President in 1984

Nobama's qualification's: no record of accomplishment, no clear political philosophy, has never taken on his own party or confronted corruption (he has however taken bribe money from Fannie and Freddie), no real legislative track record to speak of, no understanding of military matters and didn't serve, wrong on Iraq, wrong on Georgia invasion, promises to raise taxes and cut defense spending by 25%.

You must hold democrats to a much lower standard of experience than you do the Republicans.....

What are you talking about...

Quote:
I will authorize and support new exploration and production of America's own oil and gas reserves
I will set this nation on a course to building 45 new reactors by the year 2030. And I will set the goal of 100 new plants to power the homes and factories and cities of America. This task will be as difficult as it is necessary. We will need to recover all the knowledge and skills that have been lost over three stagnant decades in a highly technical field. As Nevadans are well aware, we will need to solve complex problems of moving and storing materials that will always need safeguarding. We will need to do all of these things, and do them right, as we have done great things before.
America's coal resources are greater than the oil riches of any kingdom of the Middle East. Burning coal cleanly is a challenge of practical problem-solving and human ingenuity -- and we have no shortage of those in America either. So, as president, I will commit two billion dollars each year, until 2024, to clean-coal research, development, and deployment. We will build the demonstration plants. We will refine the techniques and equipment. We will deliver not only electricity but jobs to some of the areas hardest hit by our economic troubles. And in the end, we will make clean coal a reality.
we will issue a Clean Car Challenge to the automakers of America, in the form of a single and substantial tax credit to buyers based on the reduction of carbon emissions. For every automaker who can sell a zero-emissions car, we will commit a 5,000 dollar tax credit to each and every customer who buys that car. For other vehicles, whatever type they may be, the lower the carbon emissions, the higher the tax credit.
This can be done with a simple federal standard to hasten the conversion of all new vehicles in America to flex-fuel technology -- allowing drivers to use alcohol fuels instead of gas in their cars. Whether it takes a meeting with automakers during my first month in office, or my signature on an act of Congress, we will meet the goal of a swift conversion of American vehicles away from oil.
They are capturing the boundless powers of the sun, the tides, the mighty rivers, and the warmth of the Earth itself. Yet for all the good work of entrepreneurs and inventors in finding cleaner and better technologies, the fundamental incentives of the market are still on the side of carbon-based energy.
In recent days I have set before the American people an energy plan, the Lexington Project -- named for the town where Americans asserted their independence once before. And let it begin today with this commitment: In a world of hostile and unstable suppliers of oil, this nation will achieve strategic independence by 2025.

I forgot about McCain's $300 million dollar "improved battery" contest.

As far as honorable: Keating, extra-marital affair, calling opponents foul names, and calling his wife the worst word of all. (As far as Obama going back on his word...go read what he proposed...that if he were the Democratic nominee he would negotiate with McCain to progressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election)

But, how is Sarah Palin a powerful, exceptional woman? I really don't need to get nit-picky about her performance as a gov. I do have problems with her mothering, but that is personal and has nothing to do with whether or not I think she is qualified to be VP. She isn't ready. What worries me more is that she seems to incite anger and hate at her rallies through lying and distortion of the truth(this can be documented).

The stock market does better under Democrats:

http://finance.yahoo.com/expert/arti...ureinvest/3022

one thing that makes him a hero , and to differ from you ( I find that you have a distorted view of what constitutes or fails to constitute a hero)
as a son of a US Admiral , the North Viet Namese offered to let him go early -
but because he was an honorable man and because other prisoners
( and they were all tortured the entire time they were there Mccain less so than others because of his "prize status )
were there before he got there and it is a code of ethics that you never leave before the man who got there before you.
He refused to go before those other prisoners whio were suffering for longer than he had could go .
this increased his stay as a prisoner and his htreatment was harsher after his refusal.

in the Keating case , he was found not to have done anything illegal , he was acquitted of wrongdoing , he did hold himself responsible for being involved with them in any way and did his best to make amends for this .
that is honorable behavior
I have never heard him call Obama a foul name or incite any violence toward him or his other opponents , that is simply false.
his personal problems with hie ex wife are just that and have nothing to do with anything , younger people make mistakes in marrying sometimes. it happens to the best and brightest.

[Obama, hmmpf , I saw him on camera shake Mccain's heand and state that he would take public financing since Mccain was . this is a fact .
There was also a piece of pape signed to the same effect.
He lied plain and simple.]

Sarah Palin has more executive branch experience than ANY of the other candidates. If she isn't ready then Obama damn sure isnt ready.
I have never seen her lie in a campaign speech nor incite riotous behavior , this is a liberal BS made up issue.
The Obama camp claimed someone yelled kill him ( Obama) this was bogus and was refuted as such by all parties present. Also nowhere on any tape of her speeches was this supposed BS ever recorded.
all her speeches are recorded.

you keep believing that about the stock market , the stock market likes capitalism , not socialism
and definitely nor higher taxes on investors.

like I said , if Obama wins , I will cash out and everyone else I know who is in the market in a big way will as well . we will have until Jan. to do so before he can hike the taxes.
