The bottom line is this, coal powers this country and it cannot be replaced overnight. Any legislation from any party that imposes strict gudelines such as the ones outlined by Obama will at the very least have a large impact on low income families as they will be the ones least able to afford it. People are having trouble paying their heating bills now. The transition to clean energy whether needed or not can be done but it has to be done prudently especially considering the energy situation now.

The trouble with scientists is you have 3 categories:

1. The ones that are bought and sold.
2. The ones that won't open their mouths.
3. The ones that never get heard.

Unfortunately its the latter two that make a majority. I can find just as many studies and articles that will contradict your articles and studies from people that are leaders in there field.

True it has waste but this waste can be confined to reltively small amount of space.

Sun, wind and geothermal energy (which we have enough of to power the nation for 1,000 years).

All very expensive too. This technology hasn't matured yet.

Gore's home is powered by solar energy.

Myth, Gore gets the majority of his energy from the same power lines that his neighbors do. This energy is of course produced mostly by fossil fuel burning power plants. Gore voluntarily pays a "guilt" fee to say his energy is made by renewables but that is simply not the case. He's just paying more for energy. Like I saud before when he says "We must sacrifice" He actually means "You must sacrifice"


For those of you claiming this is not what was said by Obama I'd suggest listening to whole interview which has already been lnked to numerous times. The bottom line is that your energy bills will increase if Obama gets his way, considering the fact that he plans to auction off credits it can't be any other way.

Actually I think it can be done much quicker than that, the point is we shouldn't be artificially increasing energy rates to achieve it.
