Obama just read this thread. He picks up his "Being President for Dumies" and is frantically looking up "exit strategy" in the index. Exit etiquette, exit procedure, exit sign, exit strategy...oooh, oooh exit strategy, page 134..............

Bush didn't have an exit strategy because he never intended to leave.

Bush kept moving the goal posts. Remember?

1. Iraq had WMD to use against US. No WMD? No problem! Let's move on to the next goal.

2. Let's take out Saddam because he is a bad man who kills his own people. (Never mind that it was the US government that sold him chemical weapons to use on his own people and we didn't say/do a thing about that during the 80's). Well, we killed Saddam and his two sons. Time to leave now? OH, no. We have to make sure Iraq had a stable, democratic government. OK.

3. The Iraqis wrote a new constitution and held elections. Remember all those purple fingers? OK, so can we leave now? OH, no. They're still fighting amongst themselves and there are terrorists there. (Gee, you think? What did you think was going to happen when you impose democracy on a culture that is accustomed to authoritarianism? In Islam you submit to God, there isn't such a thing as "majority rules". Islam is more than a religion: it is a form of government, a way of life, etc. It's tenants permeate every facet of life and government.)

4. We have to stay there until it is "stable". Really? Define "stable" please. Until they stop killing each other? What do you want to do, "de-muslimise" them? You have got to be kidding me!

We have been done in Iraq for a long time. That pig has been done for so long now that's it's absolutely inedible. OK?

Iraqis need to grow up and govern themselves. Are they going to kill each other? Probably, but that is their choice. Heck, they're killing each other now. We cannot keep holding their hands.

Conclusion: we should have been out of there a long while ago. All Obama has to say is: we have met all achievable goals: no WMD, no Saddam, a constitution in place with a government elected by the Iraqis.

WE ARE NOW DONE and we're out of here.
