The Denver Post is reporting that due to mail-in ballots they may not report until Wednesday despite all the early voting that's been done. Doesn't it just figure that they'd be considering a swing state this year too? It amazes me that we cannot get our act together on voting.
"It isn't instantaneous," Arapahoe County Clerk Nancy Doty said of the multistep verification and counting process that mail-in ballots must undergo. "It's a lot of work. So we're not going to be done by 1 or 2 in the morning."
*snip*
Those numbers are why Secretary of State Mike Coffman draws a difference between the "front end" of Election Day, when people are voting, and the "back end," when clerks count the votes. Coffman said the back end "will be tough."
"We are not going to be looking at Tuesday night for a final tally," Coffman said. "It's going to be into Wednesday."
Unless mail-ins are over about 20% or so of the total vote, the state will be called by all major media outlets before the night is done. Colorado plays in a few of the McCain win scenarios, but if Obama wins the states he's supposed to in the eastern time zone, the race will be over because McCain will concede.
Unfortunately that's right, CO, NM and NV as swings states do not even come into play. And assuming MO is red, It's basically OH/FL/PA/VA/NC which are in the same time zone that decides the race. As long as Obama claims 2 or more of those states, he has won the election by 8pm ET.

According to the Secretary of State, 61.9% of Colorado active voters requested mail-in ballots. (As of Monday evening, 64.8% of voters had already cast ballots, either by mail-in or early voting.)
Local news reports that many voters who requested mail-in ballots are reporting that they have not received the ballots.

I guess they'll just have to wait while we do it our way. I thought no state was supposed to be "called" until the polls closed in the west.
