help you in this election? Did it encourage you to research subjects? Did it inform you of politics you did not know about? I am just curious if this forum or the people/discussions here influenced you to 'educate' yourself moreso on this election...

Thoughts?

I don't think this forum really had any influence on me, other than give me a headache! After 8 years of republicans, it was imperative that I knew as much as I could about the next democratic candidate. And even though I vote in all elections, I really made a point this time to just remind people to vote, it's very important. I just feel this election is a make or break for a lot of people who are tired of the politics that have been smothering this country lately.

All it did for me is allow me to take out my frustrations on nameless, faceless people allowing me to maintain the 2 republican friends I have. LOL

This forum helped me hone my internet research skills to prove that some of the lies told and relayed by some of my fellow forum members were just that: lies. Distortions, lies, things taken out of context, etc. In the process of doing the research, I got to know Obama's stands on issues much better and figured out that his views even more closely reflect my own. It helped convince me that Obama was the right person for me to vote for. So thanks liars, distortionists and out-of-contexters!

I know I'm going to be slammed for this answer by some fellow forum members, so just go ahead. Today I really don't care (not that I ever cared, but today I really don't!)

The one thing I noticed is that despite all the vitriol and rhetoric from all sides, that people here are generally more politically active. Being such, folks have scoured the net collecting every tid bit of information, news article, poll predictions, rumors, and what nots, to this one place for one stop digesting.

I have seen a lot of bunk stuff but I have also seen our members post articles and opinions that were picked up a day later by commercial media. So in that respect, there were times that members reading the forum were ahead of the curve as far as having the newest information available. Sadly, at the same time they had to swim through a sea of junk to figure out which ones were viable and noteworthy.

All in all, it saved me from having to look as much since many of the other members then took the rumors to task in an effort to prove or disprove them.

I foresee an interactive game show in our future... true or not true, you find out as you launch teams of investigators to uncover the facts...! coming soon to a tv station near you!

This forum did influence me. It game me some things to read up on. Some that made a difference but most that were about useless.

Once I got through all that though my thoughts were confirmed that overall.... There are some that exist in the same mold as what's below but overall they're willing to discuss the situation rather than just point fingers and call names.

democrats - can be a bit over the top but they try to do their research on things.

republicans - Don't really have an idea what their party, note I said party not candidate, supports as a whole and would prefer to try to knock down the other candidate than explain why their candidate is the better choice. this bothered me and moved me into the dem side more.

It gave me an outlet to discuss politics. I don't talk politics at work or with my extended family (whom I disagree with) or with friends (lest it cost me friendships). This anonymous forum is great for letting it out.

This forum helped me to keep up on all the lastest news & developments,as well as learn a lot from a lot of different people from all over. It also opened my eyes to how much negitivity there is in the US. But seems the positive outweighs the negitive, for the most part.
