This is completely false. Please look up Albert Heijn XL or Carrefour, as those are the typical American "supersize stores" that are located in Holland and France.
When living in Holland, I lived down the street from two small stores that were open 24 hours, so that is false as well.
And I'm not sure what bread for breakfast has to do with anything. Compare the size of the people in France and Holland with American people, might make some think twice about that steak and eggs. I'll take my Dutch broodje kaas.
