Your inability to get along with your co-workers doesnt surprise me but it also doesnt interest me. When people are ghetto-ized and marginalized....of course there is hostility against the dominant culture.....you bettcha!
Just to let you know, I actually got along with my coworkers pretty well and we had some great conversations which led to me being able to state what I did about their neighborhoods and such. As for the pride parade, try going to the one in S.F. sometime it's a real eye opener.
Actually not the end of the story. In 2000, 61% voted against gay marriage. In 2008, 52% voted against it. Constitutions are fluid and gay marriage will be back in California.
That is what I am thinking. It is relatively easy to offer ballot initiatives in CA, I think prop 4 failed for the 4th time or something. Imho same sex marriage will probably go back on the ballot in an off year election, in the near future, when only people who care about it a lot will show up to vote and it will quietly become legal again.
It is a pretty big process to get a constitutional ballot on the ballot and even harder to get peole to vote for it. Many other propositions are much easier like Txa cuts;term limits but still hard to get passed. The thing is that you have to have alot of support to not have the oppostion showup to vote and get your supporters to show up on social issues. That is why it will be in the courts for some years now on variuos test caes.

Your figures are a bit misleading. 61% voted for the law and then some activist judges decided that the voters were wrong so this prop was put in place to reaffirm the first vote with the exact language that the judges said they wanted and that had to be there.
So it's not that less people voted for a "new" law this time around it was just confirming what the people wanted in the first place.
What was real surprising to me was the amount of black voters who supported prop 8 and also voted Obama, you'd think liberals wouldn't have supported 8 at all...
Those damn mormons!! Can't believe they pushed this. 70% of the blacks voting on this voted for the ban, and I bet every one of them was a damn mormon!
Until the 70's the LDS Church did not let blacks become members. I highly doubt that the black people that voted did so because they were Mormons. Just as civil rights were on the forefront of the 60's, equal rights for ALL people will be on the forefront for our generation.
