He will ask everyone to sacrifice for the common good and to pull together...

I for one find that kind of attitude tremendously refreshing...

Much better than the pathetic advice Bush gave the country when asked how we could support the troops - he said 'Go Shopping'. What a twisted set of priorities that moron has... Can't wait until Jan 20th
Really?? I never heard him say that. I heard him say the opposite, that those at the top will be forced (not asked) to sacrifice while those at the bottom and middle continue to be carried along. I don't believe that is for the common good.

Amazing!!!!!!! America voted Obama for President. Obama has won the majority of the popular vote. Obama has over double the electoral college votes. Some of these stupid comments about the 93% Black vote is insulting and is one reason why Attitude in America must change. Are you saying that Black votes are less important than white votes? Many many whites voted for Obama , so get over yourselves. The Republican hate campaign failed. Obama ran on change. Change for Health, Schooling, Iraq, Fuel and the Economy. YES he has been given a mandate by the American people.
Sorry that some on here only want socialism for Wall street and the "fat cats". America already uses socialism and it runs hand in hand with Capitalism. Sorry that your slumber has now come to an end.
America voted Obama in as President and they did that for change. Stop whining and talking about Socialism as you have no clue what socialism is today. Stop quoting Marx and things you have "heard". China is Communist yet America has now contributed to their huge success by buying their products and smiling while they take over America. Look outside, count the Japanese cars. Look in your home, count the Chinese goods. Amazing how you support Communism and then scream about socialism.
YES obama has a mandate and it was given to him last night when he WON the election.

Everyone's vote counts equally. The point being made is that nearly an entire group of people voted one way....what would people say if 95% of white people voted for McCain? They would say it was only because McCain was white and had nothing to do with his platform or performance.

And there were 10% that voted for McCain..

Perhaps they heard his message, rather than saw his color..

I'm white.. I voted Obama because I didn't care WHAT color his skin was.. I heard his message..

BTW. so did many states that Bush won.. and a lot of those states are predominately white

So before you start making excuses and blaming the "black vote" for your candidate loosing.. get over it.. get over yourself. They didn't elect a black man.. who, btw, is also half white.. whose mother is as white as snow!!

What they did was elect a president that will change the course of this country and put it BACK ON TRACK! and clean up the mess the republicans have created in the last 8 years not only here but abroad!

And that point is mute.. since it is obvious that the American people vote on the issues, not on the color of skin. White people crossed the race line to vote for a candidate they believe in.. and those on the other side of that race line deserve the credit for their vote being for the same reason as the white vote for Obama.... becasue they saw BEYOND their color.

As Colin Powell said.. Obama just happens to be white!

A mandate.....well, I hope he will just be more "open to all ideas" and all parties, with a lean to the left.
Not a big lean though.
W and Rove played to 51% of the people and said F you to everyone else, I don't think Obama is as likely to be like that

Less than 10% of African Americans votes for Bush in 2000 (source: CNN.com - Ads*encourage blacks to vote against Bush - Sep 13, 2004) and 11% voted for Bush in 2004 (source: Some numbers crunching - Michael Barone (usnews.com) )

African Americans tend to vote Democratic and while yes, of course, there were more who voted for Obama this year, the percentages are not that different.

Regarding a mandate, Obama received the majority of America's votes at 52%. Even Clinton didn't do that. Whether that makes a mandate, who knows, but more than half of Americans wanted him as president.

I have only experienced the Democratic and Republican since i moved to America with my American Wife. Four years ago i supported Bush because i thought he would make a difference. I was wrong.
I have noticed and now experienced the "Venom" of the Republican party followers. It is not a good trait. Many white people did NOT vote for Obama because he was Black, a horrible fact but a fact all the same.
If McCain had been a Dem and had 93% of the white vote and it carried him into the Whitehouse, there would NOT be the stupid venomous remarks made about this by the Democratic supporters. The booing when McCain mentioned Obama last night was disgusting. I have no party affiliation but this time i am convinced that Obama is the right man for the job. That is an opinion and not from partisan feelings. Time for this stupid Republican whining to stop. Whether Black or White, America voted in Obama. He was voted in for his policies and his belief in America. If you want to make excuses as to why McCain lost....Knock yourself out!
Obama won on his platform of change. He was given a mandate to carry this out. Now it is time for the Republicans to stop whinging and moaning. The last eight years has been a Disaster. Time to move forward and not backwards as some Republicans would like.
