I had similar experience in the 2004 election in CA. The priest at the local church was not shy about supporting Bush. He was expressing his political view during mass. I believe this kind of influencing happens.

I have a life, thank you very much. My main job nowadays is to get under the skin of those of you who feel as if it is your God-given mission to undermine our nation through the infusion of your radical religious beliefs! Not on my watch!

Bishop Martino of the Diocese of Scranton forced his priests to read aloud a letter written by him specifically saying that abortion was the most crucial issue in this election and that Roman Catholics in our diocese could not vote for a pro-life candidate and remain in good standing. He's just lucky the outcome of this election wasn't McCain or else I WOULD have had the tax-exempt status of this diocese investigated by the IRS for coercing people into voting for a certain candidate!

In 2000, a FORMER pastor of our church stated from the pulpit that a Democrat could not be a Christian. I was angry. Many of us were. He is now gone.

Oh yeah, he is so lucky. I bet he was shaking in his boots. Put your money where your mouth is. If you are so dedicated, then why not continue your investigation despite the outcome of the election. Pretty disingenuous.

Something similar happened to the church I went to in 2000. He never came out and said it, but he implied that Al Gore was not a christian because he was pro-choice and okay with gay rights. Now I'm pro-life, but I'm not going to presume that someone isn't a christian over the issue.

I now go to a different church

You mentioned Bible belt. What Bible are you talking about?

My Bible tells me that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Even the faith is an unmerited gift from God.

If I didn't do anything to earn my salvation, How can I do anything to lose it?
