However, in America, there is the historically imposed "one drop rule". Although people of mixed heritage more readily embrace all of their racial identity OTHERS will still catergorize via the eyeball test.
If someone is half Asian/half Caucasian or half African/half Caucasian etc most people will identify that person based upon what they appear to be.
Most people will look at Obama and classify him as Black because he is not "light" enough to be categorized as "White".
As I replied to an earlier post, anyone of 50/50 mixed Black/White lineage has historically been considered "Black". In fact as codified in law in several states, anyone who is 1/8th "negro" was considered legally "negro". That was according to the LAW.
Ken, too correct you once again! on most goverment applications for public assistance, IE medicaid. under the category of race "mixed race" is an option
Yup, and I'm sure back in the days of Jim Crow and segregation, all those white folks would have looked at him and said, "Hey, he's the son of a black person AND a white person. Let's let him sit in either section of the bus."
