Than your family unit and extended was weak to begin with. We voted all over the place some Rep some Dem some 3rd party.
Makes no difference . Its over now and we all hope whoever is in charge does well .
Thanks Luiso, it's great to see your post! My family is the same, about half with a liberal bent, and the other half much more conservative. By now, we all know who we can and can not talk "politics" (and religion) with in the family, and we are all pretty good about putting these relationships ahead of political or religious views. There is just no sense in creating family tension about this stuff. Most of us, at least, beleive that we are all "good" people, doing our best, and following our idividual consience!
There's no spite involved. He came up with a feel-good reason to vote for Barack Obama and is gloating about his choice to his mother who still supports him financially. His lack of manners and disrespect have not shown the Christian spirit he was raised with.
That'll show 'im. We liberals hate poor people so much *shakes fist in air*
Here's hoping your Christmas is extra super special this year. That poor guy will be crying in his egg nog when he hears that you've given to a soup kitchen in his name. Well, that's what he gets for voting that way, eh? Oh hey - maybe you can do something to hurt his mother as well (for supporting the b***tard)! Maybe give to an animal charity or something equally horrible?
Our family is mostly moderate with some leaning left and some leaning right. Some voted McCain.....some Obama.....but I think because none of us are radical in either direction it works.
In fact I've always encouraged my children to think for themselves. I gave them a good foundation and they can live their lives knowing they are making the right choices. And I always put myself in their shoes and remember how I felt when I was their age. Your views usually change as you get older and have experienced more of life.
I like to discuss politics with them and it's ok to disagree. But, I will not tolerate any badmouthing of one politician over another because that accomplishes nothing.
And, yes, I voted for McCain....but I wanted him to be president since the 2000 primary.....finally had my chance to vote for him. But since Obama won, of course, I want him to do a good job. It's what is best for our country.
My dad voted for McCain. All his kids (4), myself included, voted for Obama. My dad's brothers are huge McCain fans. His sister is for Obama. My husband was for McCain. My sister's in-laws are extreme right and McCain fans and also evangelical. I am agnostic, my husband is Buddhist. My parents are Catholic, my sister and her husband are UCC. Talk about different. We avoid politics and religion altogether although my father and I have had some arguments about this election. Especially since his brothers kept sending us all the rumor emails about Obama knowing that we support him. I never responded and never sent one rebuttal or any pro Obama stuff. I found it in bad taste to send those emails and therefore ignored them. My father's sister however did send an email expressing quite a bit of anger over them. I'm guessing they probably aren't speaking but they have had issues anyway. I hope that we will continue our no politics or religion rule over the holidays. I would hate for our differences to break up our family or ruin the holidays.
The Holidays will not be the same this year.
(We may not even attend.)
Anyone else's family relationships suffering from the fallout?
One of my cousins dates a guy who grew up in Communist Romania and he has changed her into a quasi-Commie as well.
But really, anyone who voted for Obama should be treated differently by their family members.
After that, that person must hate the USA. I personally do NOT associate with any Anti-American people and that would include family members. I avoid dealing with such people. To me, an Obama supporter is basically the same as a Socialist and I avoid dealing with such people just as much.
He might think the soup kitchen idea is awesome. Some members of our extended family do that. They feel they've been blessed and so they donate in each others name. (fyi they are repubs and very religious so I bet I know who they voted for good heartedness is not just for dems) You sounded like you are doing it to spite him. Too bad for you, but he might think it's a great idea.
If he's a true liberal, it's obvious he would prefer that donation in his honor. He wouldn't want for himself, he would be happy to know some poor family or homeless person got something for Christmas.
If someone didn't do this, it would seem like they were doubting the honesty of the liberal. Liberals are very good hearted and generous to a fault. The guy would likely just take his Christmas gift and look around for someone to give it, this way it saves him the trouble.

That is absurd. I voted third party, my sister voted for Obama, pop voted for McCain. My friends were heavily leaning blue.
At the end of the day all you have is your family and friends. Have a beer, some pizza, and let's move on with being there for your family and friends.

Funny you should mention him. When the soviet union fell and documents from both Russian and American secret archives became available to scholars something shocking was discovered...McCarthy was right.
