...mine included.

The Holidays will not be the same this year.
(We may not even attend.)

Anyone else's family relationships suffering from the fallout?

Um, no. Family's much more important than politics, IMHO.

I have heard that families with different political beliefs this year are having a hard time... Luckily we have none of that in ours, and we have a big family. Sorry to hear what happened..

Yes but you can just leave politics out completely of any converstation or stop it before it starts.

There are other topics of converation -- weather -- that's usually safe enough.

True, but since we voted differently this year, we were labeled as "ignorant". So the conversation will definitely be forced in that direction...it's happened before...on other issues.

I would love to stay with the weather as a conversation piece. But it never works out that way, unfortunately.

Hmm, not really, all of my family holds to the same basic ideal in terms of religious and political beliefs. We may differ on some basic issue within them, but overall, we are of the same mindset. Even with a few distant relations that are different in their beliefs, the core driving foundation of our family is the family and above all this comes first.

Then again, when I was dating before I got married, it was important that the person I was serious with shared the same basic beliefs I did. Not because I hated those who were opposite in opinion of me, but rather that I felt it important in the process of a healthy and strong marriage. While it can work for some, I felt that too many opposing views would conflict making a relationship which is a tough process as is all the more difficult to succeed in. It makes the marriage go smoother, the raising of children simpler, and the direction your family takes in life a bit more focused and in sync.
