It is getting "cooler" to be an American, anywhere in the world, including all 50 states, now that Obama is our president - elect! We did a good thing, for ourselves and for the world! Now, please do not expect miracles. . . citizens of the U.S. and of the world. Even with a democratic congress, there are many many very difficult problems to confront, both at home and abroad! It will take time, not everyone, everywhere, will be happy about some of the decisions that he makes, but we all should be happy to have a literate, intelligent and thoughful leader!
In one Night, Americas standing in the World has increased 100 fold. I live in Houston and London UK. I travel in Europe and know for a fact that the respect for America had crumbled. Whenever i'm in America i have always been treated great and i love the true American People. When i take family from America to Europe they get a shock at how many people ( not in the tourist traps) blame America for the World's sins. Obama has now shown the World that the American People will now say "enough is enough". Well done America, you have done exactly what America is famous for....."Taking Bold steps "
I am going to post this again because its so nice, but this time without messing up the title.
Suddenly, it may be cool to be an American again | MiamiHerald.com (http://www.miamiherald.com/news/world/AP/story/758237.html - broken link)
Listen, if you can't get to know Europeans or citizens of other countries on an interpersonal level without worrying about whether or not they think you are cool, you have no business going to Europe. I've been to Europe several times over the past few years, and I have NEVER been embarrassed to be an American. Not every European thinks that since you are an American, you're not cool. Give them some credit. There's no reason to discuss politics with them anyways. There's so much more to talk about.
In addition, there will always be people who do not like Americans, so if you find people who do not accept you for who you are, screw them. I'm not going to have someone try to like me based on who my President is.
Lastly, other countries are very critical of the U.S., so give it some time. I'm sure there will be criticism surrounding Obama at some point as well. I would just let it roll off...
Its preety shallow of you to think that foreigners now like you because a socialist just got elected. You should be a proud American regardless who is in office...

Well said. I've been to Europe when Bush was creating a disaster, and not one time I was asked about politics. Conversations were mostly about food, sports, and why they like the Yankees and Dallas Cowboys (I kid you not there are a good number of Cowboys fans in Europe...why? No idea).
If you waited to visit Europe until after a new president was elected, well, you're dim. You should have taken advantage of the strong exchange rate then.

Obama is NOT a socialist. Again, please run along and read your dictionary.

Its not "think that foreigners now like you", its actually happening.
And the point is not us being a proud American, the point is how proud they are of us.
