Yes, I think it's just in someone's imagination, that instantly they became very popular in just one night. It was their own self-loathing over being an American that made them think everyone hated them, but Obama is like a magic pill that makes them feel popular and pretty now.

Many different Europeans love America and Americans.
They damn sure hate Bush II, though. I agree with them on both points.

Its not Obama per se, but they are impressed with the American ppl for coming out in droves and finally voting with some sense this time to not continue with a Bush clone of neo warmongering and religious nuttiness.

America is cool regardless of who are President is. I don't need the Europeans approval. In fact, I think they need to work on THEIR coolness.

And the point is not us being a proud American, the point is how proud they are of us.
I always feel more popular after I've had a few drinks. I look around and I can tell everyone likes me better -- pretty cool how that happens.

I think this assumes that foreigners are very shallow people that they base their like or dislike of an individual by the ruler of their country.

Geez, I don't like the guy running France so I'm going to hate every Frenchman I come across.

So Europeans and others can tell just by looking at you if you voted for Obama who they also worship or McCain who they all despise as much as they despised Bush?

Maybe you don't understand how the "ruler" came about, they are voted by the ppl, so it makes sense that they assume you voted for the idiot, and therefore are an idiot, which I certainly agree with if you voted for Bush. And this time around, they are impressed that we didn't vote the idiot's clone.

I live in an area with a heavy European population, and I agree. They're the ones that usually come off as pompous and arrogant.

The guy below me in my building is from Denmark, and he is the biggest shining example of European elitism. Every other sentence starts with "well, in Europe..."

I'm sorry you feel that way. It is pretty shallow.
