Someone in the original post is being dishonest.

The business owner has no way of knowing what the actual tax policy is going to be. If he were serious about keeping his employees, he'd at LEAST wait for the guy who was going to change the policy to take office. Furthermore, even if the tax policies WERE changed, the change wouldn't be instantaneous. There would be time after the fact...

So if the business owner said this, he is being dishonest. If he didn't, you or the person who told you this story is being dishonest. Either way, something stinks.

And why would this person care if they get sued? Why protect and show allegiance to an employer who would lay you off and cite such nonsense rather than own up to the truth?

Regardless of who won the election things are going to get worse because Americans will have to adapt to the fact that they now have to live within their means and thanks to the last administration those means have been diminished.
They will be felt sooner. When businesses and investors and the market hear taxes will be raised on them, regulation increased, more socialist programs, they are going to react in a negative fashion. Everytime taxes have been raised during a bad economy, it has severely harmed the economy. The obomination made several claims about what he would do if elected, people are going to react on the assumption he will try those things.

There were 159000 jobs lost in this country in September:

Employment Situation Summary

This is per the bureau of labor statistics.

There have been, I believe, over 700,000 jobs lost since January--haven't found the link, but you can look at the bureau of labor statistics pages for each month.

I know this is all Obama's fault. (Satire) All of those people who closed shop and laid people off probably knew 11 months ago that Obama was going to be elected.

Needless to say, my coworker's boyfriend and the business owner are not very happy. The disastrous stock market reaction to the election is giving us clear signals as to what the future will hold for business around the country, INCLUDING here in the Triangle.

Has anyone else been told of any layoffs happening in the Triangle, resulting from the election results. Both ones that are happening now or projected going forward? I think this will be a game changer for the Triangle. I don't know if things will look the same here going forward. I wish the best of luck to everyone in the Triangle that ends up out of work.
Definitely sounds like a moronic company to work for anyhow... This may be a blessing in disguise for those laid off... They can find employment at a company that thinks rationally and knows what it is doing..

The company you quote above deserves to go out of business.

Because we're in a severe recession and few are hiring???

If I was an employer and I had excess staff, knowing that I was likely going to be taxed more I'd definitely lay some people off, but I'd wait a little while so people wouldn't bring up a lawsuit and try to draw money while sitting on their fat *****.

Good luck finding good work now.

Like I said, if I had too much staff or needed to trim payroll taxes, this would be a good time to do some housecleaning.

Because I didn't ask her what the name of the company was. She was very upset about losing half of their income due to the horrible policies coming our way. What was important was how she and her boyfriend are feeling, not "excuse me, stop crying and tell me the name of the company please".

I did not start the thread as a political thread. I started it as a local job loss thread, because of the policies coming our way. It was suppose to be about "has anyone else been laid off", but now it's here.

No matter what Obama does, the lefties will defend it. He could Nuke Israel and they will defend him. I get it. You can't stop posting about how he is the creator and can do no wrong. Those of us with our eyes open know better. It will become clear to everyone as time goes by, just like it did with his twin...Jimmy Carter.

I hope these people go out of business. What spineless cowards. Making these decisions solely on speculation.
