No, but here in Md. my co. will cut from 46 employees to 15, right after the move we are into right now. The move is expected to take another 5-6 weeks, then they will be let go. At 15 we will "just" be operating, with those of us left running around like mad men.

I am a foreman, so I'd be like #5 to go. I was not supposed to get this info, overheard it, was confirmed by the operations manager, and was "asked" not to convey this information to the other employees. They have no idea, and I'm not spilling the beans. Right or Wrong.

I think this was coming, nothing to do with the elections.

Gee, I always knew where my friends and their respective husbands worked. How could you not know the company if this is a personal friend? Your friend and her husband should look at this as an opportunity to find employment with a business that doesn't "jump the gun" because the employer sounds like he's not a very stable individual. I always remember FDR in times like these: "We have nothing to fear, but fear itself". Remember, there's always MacDonald's. I repeat: This is an internet hoax story.

Do we now want to get this thread moved to the Business, Finance, and Investing sub forum?

For the record, I posted here when it was part of the Raleigh, NC forum.

The quick answer to your question is that the failure to properly regulate the financial markets has led to the meltdown. It’s not like you needed to be a rocket scientist to realize that there were real problems in the housing sector when prices were appreciating at double digit percentages. It was so obvious, in fact, that even I wrote about it here at CD (Feel free to read through my old post if you want proof).

In the words of Forrest Gump, “That’s all I have to say about that”.

If I was an employer and I had excess staff, knowing that I was likely going to be taxed more I'd definitely lay some people off, but I'd wait a little while so people wouldn't bring up a lawsuit and try to draw money while sitting on their fat *****.
Someone said the OP should divulge to company's name and your response was that it may open the company up to lawsuits. My point is that if I were given a pink slip from a company and then given this sort of excuse, I wouldn't exactly be trying to protect said company.

Any business that is suffering these phantom pains from an administration that hasn't even taken office yet was arguably under water already. Running a small business is hard. Companies fold everyday in the best of times. The economic downturn has been on the horizon for a while and it's not going to change overnight.

Anyway, I guess we can turn out the lights on the "Land of Milk & Honey." And we thought it was going to be the socialist regime that destroys the job market when it's really a bunch of weak-willed "businesspeople" folding up the tents based on what might happen. Merry Christmas, now here's your pink slip.
Ding Ding! I guess THESE small businessmen don't really care about their employees.

Note to all of you small business owners: If a tax plan that hasn't even materialized yet is going to break your bank then do us and the economy a favor and liquidate now so you don't have to file chapter 11 and become more of a drain in the future.

As for skyrocketing AK-47's, it sounds like the market at work. Demand up, supply down, price up. Ah, capitalism.

As for the mandate, all I can say is that's democracy for you. Occasionally the people elect someone you're not crazy about to be POTUS. I'm sure not crazy about the results of 2000 or 2004, but we all survived. And we shall again.

Obama isn't the President. Not yet. If bosses are laying people off, they're doing so because they're overstaffed and looking to cut costs. Because the economy sucks. And that's one we can't blame on Obama just yet.
the letters p-e-r-s-e came up as a cuss word, so I quickly edited it to include a hyphen.

Demand is up for ak-47s because of the speculation of an AWB.
