Unfortunately though, land doesn't vote, people do. If we allocated votes based on square mileage, Republicans would win every single election.

There is a general law I ascribe to: the higher the population density, the more socialistic in nature the people who inhabit it will be. Accordingly, every single county that has a population density of over 1,000 people per square mile went to the socialist candidate.

Yea, the majority of sparse land and counties with small populations are indeed red.

However, the areas where there are actually any measurable populations are almost all blue. Interesting.

Personally, I think that the areas where actual people live are more indicative of whether or not the country is truly red or blue.

Here's a cartogram showing the map with the counties resized according to population. I know, it's freaky looking.
