Your pro-elderly agenda is disgusting

It took 8 years for Bush to push this country into the rut it is in, its going to take atleast 4 years to get us out right? Just being honest....
Well I don't see how the country is so horrible. The economy before the last year was booming, people were spending, unemployment was low and consumer confidence was high. That being said it took about two years (the time they have been in control of the Senete and House) for the Dems to screw up the housing market, so there is a WHOLE lot of damage Obama can do in 4 years.

And that IS being honest. Maybe you should ask the Bush haters to be honest because after 9/11 and the depths that the economy was in he did a FANTASTIC job bringing it back. Honest!

Exactly!!

(but it was the dems led by Pelosi, Frank and Reid who wrote it, pushed for it, and ultimately shamed the republicans into signing it)

I'm not going to chew your head off, but I don't agree with you. Don't get me wrong, I deeply deeply hope you're right. But, frankly, I have real doubt that any president could have much success with the cards being dealt this year. I voted for Obama because I think he'll play those cards better than any of the other candidates. But it's a lousy hand and for that reason there's no guarantee that he will end up winning the game.

Along similar lines, I actually know people who claim they want to have a black president, but who refused to vote for Obama because he'll have an unusually hard time succeeding. They wanted the first black president to lead during an "easy" administration.

They voted for McCain on the theory that if McCain failed, people wouldn't blame blacks for it. Instead they'd see the failure as just another example of old white male presidents disappointing the American public. But if Obama failed, they worried the media would say a black man wasn't competent to be president and people would never vote for a black president again.

It's a crazy way of thinking, but I never really knew a good argument to counter it. All I know is that you can't really guess which administrations will be easy and which will have challenges--destiny has a way of surprising us. Whether Obama succeeds or fails, only time can tell. But no matter what happens, I think we will see future black presidents, as well as female presidents, hispanic presidents, asian-american presidents, etc. etc.

I think Obama has broken the color barrier, just like Kennedy broke the "Catholic barrier". I remember when many people were afraid, yes afraid, that Kennedy would be beholden to the Pope, who would tell him what to do. I was only a kid then, but I thought it was nuts. Shortly after that, no one cared about a president being a Catholic. I hope to see the day when no one cares if the president is Jewish, Muslim, Mormon, etc.

How do you figure? In the midst of a horrible economic crisis, which always hurts the incumbent party, and two wars going badly, and 8 years of failures, and the worst president in history, Obama got only 52%.

And you think more voted for the black man with the Muslim name than voted against him, based on his skin color?

I think the Bush administration is the only reason that we even had a chance to vote a black man into office. If the GOP hadn't been such a colossal failure for the last 8 years, he never would have had a chance. The GOP could have run a Joe the Plumber/Palin ticket and won.

Way more people voted against Obama because of his color than for him.

This has been the case with ANY Black person accomplishing ANYTHING in this country. Not only can we not a mistake, but we have to be BETTER than anyone who has ever done the job. (That's why to compete in the Olympics, Jesse Owens had to outrun a racehorse.)

And yes if Obama has an unsuccessful Presidency, it will be said it's because he's Black and all of our collective lives go in the toilet.

If Obama messes up, this so called "new age America" will be nothing but a bad taste in the mouth. And it will be remembered long after we here are all dead.
