So walking down the street being black is now bad?
Obviously you've never had the privilege. You think walking down the street is bad? Try driving a really nice car or being in a really nice neighborhood.
I said that homosexuals comparing their plight to the plight of African-Americans is ridiculous. Homosexuals can walk down the street, in most cases, without people knowing that they're gay. In most cases, African-Americans cannot.
As such, claiming that gay marriage is an issue that comes close to the enslavement and Jim Crow laws that affected African-Americans for hundreds of years is ridiculous.
Gays are fighting for self-expression while African-Americans fought for the most basic rights. Gays can hide. Black people cannot.
When you're telling me YOUR beliefs are the reason I shouldn't be able to get married, yeah I'm gonna tell you what I think of that. As far as this majority thing goes, the majority of people in this country once believed black people to be subhuman, and women to be second class citizens. Beliefs change with time (even though some people still believe what I just mentioned).)
Who cares what you think? My beliefs are my beliefs. I have the power to vote off of my beliefs. I voted against gay marriage. Deal with it.

Too bad many of our laws are based off of religious principles. Why don't some states sell alcohol on Sundays? Because of religious principles. Why is marriage defined as between a man and a woman on a national level? Because of religion. So do not start this whole separation of church and state argument.
My church can do whatever it wants to do. It's your opinion that religion should just teach us to accept every sinful people want to do. Not so. It's egregious that you think people's religious principles should get thrown out of the window so that Tom and Scott can get married.

(Or civil unionize or whatever you want to call it.)
70% of blacks works out to less than 10% of the vote.
Exit poll showed that Republican party members (of all colours) sided in favour of the measure by a ratio of more than 4 to 1. Furthermore, Republican party members made up nearly a third of the voters(33%)
This should not be about race, homosexuals come in all colours. This is more about people belief system that discriminates against other who don't conform.
Yes, there is a rather big difference between CU's and marriage.
CU's do not give ANY access to federal rights/benefits.
CU's do not automatically transfer state to state meaning just because you have one/are married by CU in Kansas does not mean Nebraska has to recognize it or will. Neither are CU's even options in some states.
The first difference is huge because the last number I remember is that that then excludes gays and lesbians from some 1000+ federal rights/benefits. It also should be said that Mass allowed gay marriage but in a huge breach, thank you DOMA, that marriage is not recognized by the feds meaning it didn't get them much as of yet as far as rights go.
Thank you for the information. I personally have no problems with gays and I do think they should be able to have a union that gives the same rights as marriage, I do however feel it should not be called marriage. To me marriage is a union between man, woman and God. I know some will slam me for this but it is how I feel. I think it would appease both sides. Gays would get the rights and those that oppose would keep the word "marriage".
When you think about it really it is, for me anyway the word "marriage" so let gays call it something else but it gives them the same rights. I don't see why this should be a problem.
The reaction of blacks to a noose and gays to a baseball bat should be some source of unity.
